Moving to Laramie this summer...

I joined the Wyoming Aggies Google group only to find that it looks like it went mostly inactive about a year or two ago.

Anyone lived around Laramie before or know any Ags in Laramie or Cheyenne? We're headed back up there probably in May to look for a place to live and so that my husband can interview, but it's always nice to talk to someone about their experience.

We drove through there on our way up to Portland. Beautiful part of the country.

It's a good state to live in. Especially if you like to hunt. You'll be in a good location for it. Plenty of very remote places to go for outdoor recreation. Get used to howling wind all winter long. Winter ends in mid May. If you like history, you're in an excellent location. We didn't live in Laramie, but Mrs. Ledbetter had to spend time there at the University for work. Neither one of us ever came away with the impression that we'd like to live there. It's a nice town, though and it'll probably grow on you once you're there.

EMC, it's definitely a change! I interviewed in Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming for faculty positions. Of all my campus visits, I loved Wyoming the most.

You're right, spartan, it's gorgeous, and I've only seen it in person in late January. We drove up from Denver and right into a small snowstorm (not like any of the blizzards they've had the last few weeks). Yet, I found it breathtakingly gorgeous.

Thanks for the info, ML. I knew going up that it's a small college town (and grew up in a town that's even smaller). My husband is ever the outdoorsman. So, he's beside himself giddy for hiking, rock climbing, and hunting.

I was able to connect with wyoag77 a few weeks ago. He and his wife live just NE of Laramie. So, we're hoping to meet them when we go up in May to househunt or at least after we move there.
