I have applied for an Assistant Professor position with Utah State. I have driven through Logan once before, but have never spent any time there. It looks like a beautiful area.

Does anyone have any insight on living around there?

I live in Ogden. Layton is a really nice little city. Lots of outdoor stuff to do. Utah state is a nice college with good athletics so you'd have that too.

If you like skiing, mountain biking, fly fishing, camping, etc - not many places better. Also cool cause only about 3-4 hours to the Tetons, Yellowstone, and lots of great country.

Live in n. Ogden, Logan is a great college town, think a mini college station with plenty of outdoor activities.

I lived in Vernal for a bit. Pretty area with a bunch of outdoor stuff to do. The town was like your typical oil/gas town but with a lot more Mormons.

I live in Logan. I really like it for the most part. It's beautiful with a lot of outdoor recreation, a lot of kid activities, and very safe (reading the Logan police blotter can be amusing).

Negatives - in the winter, we get inversions where the cold, polluted air gets trapped in the valley. It's gross and worrisome. If you go up the canyon to the little local ski resort, it's beautiful and sunny and you can escape the inversion, but unfortunately, we can't do that everyday during an inversion. It's pretty Mormon and conservative. Not a lot of nightlife type thing in Logan.

We are not Mormon but have met a great group of people who are transplants like we are (many USU related). I'm not entirely sure what it will be like for non-LDS children to be raised here as they get older. I've heard mixed stories. But it's so safe here with so much outdoor rec that if learning how to be a religious minority is the worst thing that our kids will have to deal with, then maybe that isn't so bad. What department are you looking at?

I also live in Logan. Agree with everything Rev03 said. If you like the outdoors you will love this place. If you like nightclubs and fine dining, not so much. The climate is awesome except for Feb. and March. Good time to visit Texas. Overall a very good move for us.
