I got my wife a new vehicle last June, and one day about 2 months later, I dropped a grand on registration for her ride, then 400-500 at the dentist, then 1500 to the hospital (best "purchase" a man can get... birth of a 2nd little girl)..... in one day! By the time I got to work, my bank account had taken a $3,000 hit.

Ooh, maybe staff can create a "***** about California" forum. Probably get more attention than any other forum devoted to texas, football aside of course.

And yes, I live in CA. But my income more than makes up for all these crazy taxes. If you can't afford to keep up with it (or are so unhappy about it that it makes you constantly upset), then you should leave. Perfect weather ain't cheap. Now if you live in bakersfield, then I don't know what to tell you...

Plenty of people have left the state. Maybe if you cleaned up the **** hole in Sacramento and LA, you would have more people working and less people on section 8 housing.

Bought my wife a 2014 Kia Sorento last year here in Colorado Springs. Just got the registration renewal in the mail the other day. 600 bucks, Thank God for the military exemption. I have never had a vehicle registered outside of Texas, didn't realize it was so damn expensive outside of Texas.

Some things are higher. Some are lower. For instance, property taxes are significantly higher (rate) than California, but it ends up being a wash in a lot of cases because of higher values.
But 600? Wow, I thought my 500 was high. Guess it's higher in Colorado than California? Interesting.

Cant disagree. I'm paying over 50% taxes right now so get to support them, but have kind of accepted it. A lot of what you describe is now a nationwide concern, not just California anymore. It's just worse here. For now, at least.

The renewal goes down quite a bit. It'll probably be 350 next year. I think I paid less than 200 last year for my 2008 SUV.

Thats the saddest thing I've heard today. Of course, the girl I love (and the only normal person in the entire damn city of San Francisco) is from Bakersfield, so it can't be that bad...

I've never been to Bakersfield. Does it suck just relative to the rest of CA, or does it suck as in there are nicer places in TX?

Proud.. I'd say it sucks compared to cities outside of CA. Compared to CA, it really sucks. It's a desert. As soon as you drive 5 miles outside of town, there are nothing but tree farms and the like. No water anywhere. It's ~2 hours from the coast.

The city itself.. ok it's alright. Some bars, restaurants. I only stay at mariott on truxton right in downtown , so have only been around there, and eaten at hungry hunter, which is good.

But you feel isolated due to the entire surrounding area being nothing but dry dirt and tree farms (some grapes and fruits scattered around too). If it's not a farm, it's open vast areas of dirt, and probably has pump jacks on it.

Of course, 30 minutes or so east, and you are in sequoia. So that of course is a plus.

Just got a letter from CHP on my registration (moved from TX over a year ago). Looking forward to the DMV bending me over on this one...

Mail them some lube with a note that says "please be gentle..."
