Anybody have any experience there, whether living there or just stopping by briefly on a trip? Tried the search function and there wasn't much. Moving there is a real possibility and my wife is pretty skeptical.

About us: married with no kids. 2 dogs. We both work in medicine. I would be there for as short as a few years. We like going out to bars, restaurants, and the occasional outdoorsy thing like hiking or being on the lake.

Are there nice places to live? Would my wife always be afraid to go anywhere by herself? Is the food good?

Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

We lived near St. Louis for 3 years. We lived on the Illinois side of the river, as it was closer to my work. There are some really nice neighborhoods in STL, it's not all Ferguson.

As far as nightlife, there is plenty. Central west end, Soulard, downtown/Washington area. And there is always some sort of beer fest going on.

The Hill is full of good Italian restaurants. And there are plenty of other good places all over town.

As far as outdoor stuff, there is plenty of that as well within relatively short drives.

We lived there as a married couple, no kids, and always had plenty going on. St. Louis is a really fun city.

I live in Columbia. It's about 2 hours from St. Louis.

St. Charles would be the place you and your family would want to live. It's not a huge town, but it is got great schools and is safe and is just 15-20 minutes from St. Louis.

And make sure to go to the Cardinals! You just feel the history and legacy at the games.

And since you said you like hiking, the Katy trail ends in St. Charles. It is an over 200 mile trail that wanders through MIssouri

No need for great schools (my wife taught 2nd gr in St Charles)...just he and his wife. Live downtown or in the Central West End close to bars and nightlife.

And agree about the Cardinals, it's impossible to not be a fan living there.

Hoping I get to move to KC so I can make a few weekend trips back to St Louis.
