My wife has received a job offer in Columbus. We would probably be moving in June or July. Does anyone have any recommendations for areas to live, good schools, daycare, etc.? I have a 5 yr old and a 3 yr old, so we'll need both.

We also plan on renting the first year we are there, so any realtor recommendations would be very helpful.

Thanks!

try bexley, hilliard, grandview heights or dublin. all except bexley are in the northwest part of the city. all are in good school systems. places to see would be the zoo, cosi downtown, park of roses (for the wife), the conservatory on broad st east of downtown, short north, brewery district just south of downtown on high st and the arena district. shopping is easton town center and polaris. there's a lot of cool shops in short north and around campus at Ohio State as well. stay off livingston ave from downtown east and do the same with cleveland ave

Agree mostly with Surf but do think the "bad" areas of Columbus are blown out of proportion. A lot of where you want to live depends on if you are a suburb or more urban type person and the type of commute you want. Any suburb around the north loop from Hilliard to Gahanna have their pluses. I live about a mile north of OSU in Clintonville but don't have kids. What part of town will your wife be working in?

She'll be working at Ohio Dominican. We made a quick trip to Columbus this past weekend. We drove all the way around the loop to get a brief overview of the area. We drove through the Dublin area and liked it, but it may be too far of a commute.

We would prefer a suburb, but a good neighborhood would be ok too. We are planning on renting the first year in order to get a feel for the area and make sure the job works out.

We really considered Gahanna as a suburb option but didn't want to commute in to downtown (my job) or OSU (wife's job).

Traffic is hell.

We lived in Worthington for 6 months while my husband worked in Dublin.

It took at least an hour and sometimes more every morning and every evening for him to get home.

Live near where you will work.

if she's working at OD i'd definitely go with Bexley. very good school district plus you're minutes from downtown, the air port and Easton. you have quick access to 70 and 670 as well. areas just north of main between it and broad are very nice.

I also live in Columbus and got an email from your wife through the local A&M club email. I sent her our number, please feel free to call to discuss different areas of town. My wife and I moved here 14 years ago and are happy to help however we can.

We have been very happy here. There are very nice suburbs here, but there are also some incredible urban neighborhoods / inner ring suburbs as well (Clintonville, German Village, Bexley, Grandview, Upper Arlington

Tanya, when did you live here? Your husband must have had the absolute worst combination of roads possible to have an hour long commute. Did he have to drive through the construction at 23 and 270 every day? In my experience an hour long commute within the city would be the exception, not the norm. Compared to DFW and Houston the traffic here is not bad.

Ahhh, that totally makes sense now. If you haven't been back since 1996, the northwest side of town has completely changed. Back in 1996 I-270 was only 2 lanes from Worthington to Dublin. Now it is 4 lanes each way. Huge difference. Now instead of horrible traffic, the cops set up speed traps in that corner of town because it is wide open. It still backs up a little during rush hour, but really not bad at all.
