Heck yea...I live in South Virginia. Breakfast Tacos are non-existent around here...Mexican restauramts don't even have homemade tortillas.

I figured this was gonna be about the Snowpocalypse. It's really coming down tonight, Snow can be fun but its times like this that I really miss Texas weather.

check out your competition Republic Kolache before you spend a lot of 'dough'......already ahead of you......not sure DC has the TX traffic to support 2.

Primo - if your idea of good Mexican is Guapos in Shirlington, you need a new tongue.

It's good tex mex, at least for the area. I'd be interested in hearing what you've found that's better.

I think I used the word "decent" anyways.

To be fair, I'd never heard of "scrapple" before I came up here.

DC needs more kolaches. Texas needs more chili-only restaurants (e.g. Hard Times...gaaahhh miss it)

Maybe a little late to post this here, but my wife and I just moved up here in August, and we're planning on going to Muster tonight (we live just a few blocks away.) Do people tend to dress up quite a bit? I'm trying to decide between jeans and an Aggie polo, or a nicer button-down and slacks.

Also, we're planning on bringing our one month old baby - anyone foresee any issues there? Since we live so close, it's no issue if we need to leave early or get her home for some reason. Do they do a 21 gun salute similar to campus Muster, (or any other things that would be bad for an infant?)

Update. We went to Muster and it was great (no surprise.) Hopefully I'll get to meet some of y'all at future DC Aggies events.

Didn't see this thread earlier, mostly because I lurk on Varsity. Hopefully some of you who posted here will see it and maybe it will give you some ideas of where to try Mexican here in Northern VA.

There are several good Mexican restaurants in DC. Chuys is in Fairfax City and in Springfield Mall. Uncle Julios in Woodbridge is good, much better than the one in Fairfax Corner. Anita's can also be good, especially if you like New Mexico green chili sauce. There are many around -- Burke, Vienna, Fairfax.

I've eaten at Guapos in several locations (Fairfax, Shirlington, Rockville/Germantown), and Austin Grill in two locations (Springfield, Fairfax City - before it closed) and I would say those are "Tier 2" options. If you're a little more adventurous, DC is home to one of the largest concentrations of central american populations in the US. There are any number of Salvadoran options in most DC suburbs and exurbs.

And to the OP, we welcome you with open arms. We can definitely use more authentic TexMex options in these parts.
