Will be in Vermont weekend of July 9-10. If we can find something fun to do we might make a vacation out of it.

Anything fun to do in that region? Might even head to Canada - Montreal area. Any fishing hunting at that time? The wife's birthday is around then too.... She has done NYC and we recently did Boston - so we may avoid those.

Any advice appreciated.

I have to say I can't help you....as Vermont was one of my destinations during the winter (skiing at Stowe) when I was a teenager...and that was many years ago. Last time I was in Vermont was probably 20+ years ago. That said, here are a couple of things I've experienced....

  • Vermont is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Green everywhere.
  • Colonial architecture.

  • Candidly, be prepared to say 'what did you say?' when talking to a local. I was raised in Connecticut, so I was only three hours from the Vermont border. Yet their accents are so different that I had difficulty understanding the natives.

  • You know you're in a different world when you approach Montpelier (the capital of Vermont) on the interstate and it's only one exit.
  • If I had to describe Vermont in one word I'd say 'Quaint.'

Hope you have a blast.
