I've recently been looking for a new job, and I interviewed with a company in Lake City. It was just the initial phone interview, but it went well and I'll probably get an on site follow up soon. I currently live in my home town, and I love it, but feel that it may be time to leave the company if I ever want to further my career.
Lake City appears to be tiny, and Gainesville is about an hour away. We have kids that live here close to grandparents and I'm scared to mess that up. Any advice?

Lake City is very small (less than 15,000 people), but appears to be a quaint little town. (I have only stayed there once and then been to Gainesville a handful of times). You're in good proximity to Gainesville, just under two hours to Tallahassee, and just over an hour to Jacksonville. You're also about an hour and a half from both the Atlantic beaches and the Gulf beaches. Osceola National Forest is right there, so you have some beautiful scenery and quite a bit of freshwater and national springs in the area. It seems like a great place for fishing, camping, and hiking (just wish there was more elevation).

Moving away from family is difficult though, especially with little ones. Our family likes Florida a lot, but I really do wish we had grandparents near us that could help with the children, and just be there to watch them grow up.

We have an awesome church that I think would be hard to replicate, and we like our work quite a bit, that being said there are definitely days I wish we were back in Texas and able to spend more time with our family.

Thanks for the response, it's very helpful. I'm leaning towards turning down the position but I think the money will be very good. I just don't know if anything else will be. I don't want to hurt my family by being too focused on the money.
