I went through my ****coin phase back in 2017-2018 and would like to help him avoid this if I can.

My initial thought is to emphasize the decentralization and fixed supply of BTC vs. other coins.

I'd like to also recommend to him something for him to read that lays this out clearly and succinctly.

Any suggestions?

To start, if he is considering bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, he's likely disillusioned with the US dollar and the fact that the FED and our Govt., are able to steal our wealth by printing more dollars and devaluing our currency. I think explaining to him that the supply of Ethereum is similar to the USD, and can grow to infinity is deterrent enough for many.

The other ****coins like ADA, folks normally have to learn the hard way. You can search the thousands of coins that have gone to zero, like OneCoin, and use those as examples for your friend.

Have him read the Bitcoin Standard. Covers the differences between BTC and other coins pretty well in one of the chapters at the end.

Just tell him that maturity is gained through exceptional suffering, blood sweat and tears. Explain your personal battles, and then let him go through it on his own.

Let him go through his "I don't trust anyone except for the influencers I trust, and i definitely know better than you," phase. Damn teenagers...

People get what they deserve, when they deserve it.

That's my advice. Don't sweat the effort for him for no personal gain.

It's an exercise that'll leave you wanting, unless you're like me and a glutton for punishment, I wouldn't recommend the effort.

Yeah. I was lucky that most of my ****coin exposure was ETH, which I liquidated without losing my shirt once I figured some things out. Others I know were not so fortunate.
