I am going to give my dad my old truck and the title. What is the proper way to do this, monetarily speaking (ie taxes for me/him)?

Do I sell it for $1 or sell it for $8K and then gift the $8K back?

Going through this with my son, Class of 22. To avoid sales tax, this is the official method.

In addition to completing Form 130-U, Application for Texas Title and/or Registration (PDF), both the donor and person receiving the motor vehicle must complete a required joint notarized Form 14-317, Affidavit of Motor Vehicle Gift Transfer, describing the transaction and the relationship between the donor and recipient.

There are a bunch of notary points. It's much easier if you can both go to tax office with the title. I think then, you can just sign it in front of them without notary.
