Don't waste your time, you know most of the story if you've paid attention to it at all.

You can tell some traders at Jane Street were a lot more interested in talking to him because that portion of the book goes into the kind of detail you'd expect from a Lewis book. After that, it's a vapid fluff piece.

So much was made of the fact Michael Lewis "was there" for the collapse of FTX. The problem was he didn't get there until the entire thing was crumbling and evidently, nobody at FTX actually talked all that much to him. There's just about zero insight into the actual collapse.

Is he as sympathetic to SBF as the reviews made it sound? I'm disappointed by the response to this one. I've always enjoyed his book and I love a good business disaster book.

If you're interested in a good crypto book, I really enjoyed Number Go Up by Zeke Faux. He's a former Bloomberg writer and he was able to interview SBF multiple times for this book. He has a much more skeptical view of the whole project.

I don't know if he's overly sympathetic or SBF really is that naive. Some of the reviews seem to have gone overboard as if they were hoping the book would make SBF out to be absolutely evil, which it didn't.

What was so disappointing about the book is he doesn't get into the details of the collapse well enough to help make that determination either. He didn't have much more access to inside info than randos on Twitter.

Disappointing. Saw clips of the 60 minutes interview he did where claimed it was a good, viable business that fell apart due to a bank run... as if they just forgot to file the paperwork and tell everyone they were a bank rather than a trading firm.

Seems like it's too early to write a book on this, at least wait for the trials to run their course and see what else falls out.

It's pretty obvious he rushed a half-written book and that he started writing it quite a while before showing up at FTX. The Jane Street stuff seems to be well-researched and in-depth.

Once it gets into the actual nuts and bolts of the founding of Alameda Research and then FTX, it starts becoming a bullet-point list of stuff anybody can learn from a deep dive into Wikipedia pages and Reddit threads.

Good video (by an Aggie as well) that rips the book apart

Didn't realize Coffeezilla is an Aggie. He's been great at covering the SBF trial and exposing Logan Paul.

his last several books have been disappointing. I think Michael may have lost his curveball.

SBF/FTX has always and will always be a minor footnote.

Been watching some of the Coffeezilla videos. Never heard of him before this. As someone who hasn't really taken a long look at Crypto, watching his videos gives me even more pause. So much fraud.

I wonder how long you pause when you look at the world at large, recognizing the fraud and misrepresentations of reality that exist at your detriment which you've accepted at face value.... and then I wonder if you reflect whether there is more or less fraud in crypto than in general.

Thank God bitcoin exists as a mirror.

He was going down either way, but yeah, he didn't help his case.

It seems apparent that he wasn't try to write the expose, but the rise to top. This book was supposed to be more Moneyball than Flash Boys. Will be interesting if he updates it with any kind of postscript.
