My HSA was invested in index funds through TD Ameritrade, I was able to trade freely. The transfer to Charles Schwab happened in October. My new account with CS now restricts trading. "This order cannot be accepted. This account is restricted to orders that close out existing positions." Anyone have the same problem or know how to fix it?

Which index fund is it?

May just have to buy the same index fund from Schwab.

Either way, I'd call up Schwab.

Something weird likely happened during your rollover. My HSA-linked acct also moved from TDA to CS. I sold ETFs yesterday no problem.

Schwab customer service was very friendly and helpful when I had a question after switching from TD.

And I thought HSAs were for healthcare expenses? How does one compliantly get to use those funds to play Gordon Gecko?

Use a provider that lets you invest. It may depend on who your work chooses, unfortunately. But actually ingesting HSA funds is the only way to take advantage of the triple tax advantaged nature of an HSA.
