Amending Prior Year Taxes (via Turbo Tax)

As I completed taxes yesterday, I realized we missed a big deduction last year (mortgage interest). Will take us beyond the standard deduction by about 5k. Seems as if we just didn't get a 1098 sent to us and it was out of sight, out of mind. Overall, we had a small refund last year.

Is this process pretty simple with Turbo Tax? Anything I should be aware of in general?

Thanks!

I've had to amend because I missed reporting retirement account form. Didn't affect my refund, but I did as a CYA. It was really easy.

Just be careful. TurboTax does not accurately carry the numbers from your previous year's return to the amended return. You need to double check all the numbers carefully. It's been a problem with TurboTax for years that, for some reason, they have not corrected.

Get ready to wait a long time for the refund from your amended return. I filed a 2023 amended return in July of last year and it has yet to even be processed by the IRS. I understand they are still processing 2021 and 22 amended returns.

That's the least surprising thing I've heard all year.

Thanks for the replies.

I did an amended return via TurboTax for my parents last year as my dad incorrectly entered their income. They are do a sizable refund. We submitted last July and haven't heard squat. So as the previous poster said, don't expect anything anytime soon.
