I chose Cigna healthcare for this first year. I have not been remotely impressed. I have submitted one claim for a routine dental cleaning back in February ( dentist not in network so had to make my own claim) . Still haven't been paid. They fight to not pay . Maybe they all do that I dunno but it's been ridiculous and it's easy to tell they don't have their act together. Haven't been able to even talk to a human there that could look at the claim and explain why it hasn't been paid. Prescriptions have been ok.

If it's this hard to get paid on something this simple I can't even imagine what it will be like if I get into something more serious, complex , and expensive.

Time to start shopping for a replacement. Anyone have a good experience with a company that does Medicare supplemental policies ?

Sounds like you have the advantage plan.
Most things I read don't like that plan much due the the numerous restrictions to get the "free stuff" and low premiums.

It's not an advantage plan. So far it seems like a supplemental plan that the insurance doesn't want to pay their obligations on plan. It's easier for them to make their target return if they take the premiums and don't pay claims. That may or may not be a sustainable business model for them. It isn't for me.

Give Boomer Benefits a call. Sounds flaky, but, several of my friends have used them. They are billed as "Medicare Experts" and so far, I agree. Based in Texas. Doesn't cost anything. They review options available and search for a plan that most closely fits your individual needs and budget.

They put me into an Aetna plan (not advantage) & I've never had a problem. They best part is that if you do get a bill that you are questioning, they will get to the bottom of it. I've never had to make a call myself. A couple of years ago, I had a ER visit & got a bill for over $600. Emailed it to BB & it was resolved with nothing due from me. Its happened a couple of times & always resolved by them.

They also saved me money on my drug plan.

My wife and I are on Plan G High Deductible. I am on BCBS for $66/mo (goes up about $3.00/month every year) and my wife is on Mutual of Omaha for $37/mo and it has never gone up in the 3 years she's been on it. We have an annual maximum out of pocket of about $2,800/yr each, which we've never come close to meeting. It didn't make sense for us to pay 300/month each just to cover the 20% that Medicare doesn't cover. So far, we're ahead. I treat it like car insurance with a High Deductible to help keep the premium costs low.

Anyway, I don't know of any Medigap (Supplement) plan that covers dental, but I could certainly be wrong. We have a separate Cigna 2500 plan for dental, vision and hearing ($51.00 ea/mo) and if your dentist is out of network, Cigna pays very little. They are also very strict on the timing of your visits. Our old employer sponsored insurance allowed 2 cleanings per Calander year, no matter how close they were to each other. With this Cigna plan we're on now, the cleanings must be separated by 6 months.

Someone mentioned Boomer Benefits. I hear they're very good, but I learned all about the pitfalls of Medicare by watching videos from Medicare School.com. We did not use them (actually they don't even sell HD plans because of the low commission) but there's good info on their website.

Good luck

I'm glad I stayed 20 in the Army, Tricare for Life is almost as good a benefit as the pension.

That's actually a really good point when it comes to dental coverage . Maybe self insure on dental is the way to go.

Not on Medical tho imo.

Sure it is. But we're stuck with it so we might as well work together and find the best deal!
