Lump sum makes sense for me this year as most of my income will be tax free.

I'm at a loss though when it comes to how to sell. I get prompted for limit, stop limit, etc.

Coaching, tips, appreciated...

It's not a small amount. I've been letting it sit for almost 4 years in anticipation of this year.

A limit sell order lets you set the minimum price you will sell it for. So if the stock is trading around 45.50 you can set the limit at that or maybe a little higher and if that price holds you will sell it at that price. (If the price is higher it will sell at the new higher price)

Market order will basically be selling at whatrver the market price is when your order is processed. So you might see the stock at 45.50, but by the time you hit enter it might drop to 45.40 and that would be the price it ends up being sold for.

None of this will be taxed until you make the withdrawal. You mentioned that most of your income is tax free this year but there is a difference between tax free and taxed at 0%. If you are saying all your income is muni bonds for the year you are correct it's tax free (federally). If you mean your income is all qualified dividends in the 0% and social security that is not taxed, the distribution from the IRA can push your income up to where social security will be taxed and because of the stacking rules, could push your qualified dividends from the 0% bracket to the 15% bracket. If it's very large it could potentially push you across an IRMAA threshold.

That's one tax exemption I don't want to qualify for.
But you definitely deserve it!
