Sold some AMD stock and regret it

Are there any headwinds coming for tech that might make AMD drop back down again sometime soon? I'm trying to decide if I should get back in, but at this point I'm kicking myself for dropping some of my holding.

The probability of it dropping after Tuesday is pretty high after the big pop. I have a feeling you can jump in tomorrow at a lower price than the close today, but just a guess

I jumped in this morning at $334 and then out at close $354. Taking my +$20/sh and going home, lol. But I was just in it for a quick turnaround

Why is it expected to fall after May 5th? They're expected to show a good quarter, from what I can tell.

No one has ever gone broke taking profits. Selling too early is part of the game if you are going to trade individual stocks, better than selling too late

Look at SNDK today.

Now I'm even more confused. Apparent good news, yet the stock is falling? Is it due to people selling to take profits?

I've set limits for AMD at $325 and $300. I hope those are good to catch the next wave.

I will say, if you have watched these big companies and their earnings over the last several quarters. It's becoming the norm for them to drop with beats across the board. I got burned with NVDA back in Dec and then AVGO a couple of months ago. They both killed it all the way around, and then dropped like 10% or so. So I had to wait some time before I got back to even. Now SNDK.

So I'm done with trying to take a quick buck off of earnings.

No kidding. I feel like an idiot now. Do I buy expecting it to go even higher? At least I still have half the shares I originally bought.

I'll stick by what I said earlier you can't chase winners or losers when your trade individual stocks. Lock in your win and move on to the next one.

Yeah, but I'm also thinking I might want to go in long term. Just sucks that I'd but higher than I sold it for. No idea if it will ever come back down.

I covered call my shares but AMD kept blowing past the strike points so rolled calls to a higher strike/later date. Finally capitulated 3 wks ago and closed my calls at $40/share loss. Good thing as shares have went up $120/share in 2 wks.

Crazy that AMD is +140% since I jumped in 6 months ago. I feel there has to be a pull back in the next month, it seems way too overheated.

My wife used to work at AMD. Her RSU's were essentially paper weight while she was there. She did meet with Lisa Su a couple of times before she left and believed she would turn the company around.

My wife left for another opportunity, but I never did anything with her stock. It wasn't enough money to really move the needle even when it started to move up, so I kept letting it ride. I finally started selling a little two weeks ago when it got up to $350. Of course I am kicking myself for that, but it seemed nuts. I sold a little more on Friday at $450. I still have over 75% of her shares and will probably continue to sell more here and there on the way up.

One of my good friends owns a trading company and his advice is to keep selling a little as it goes. He said too many people either hold everything or sell everything.

No regrets, but all out here too, and could have done much better If I held it a bit longer. Will be close to all out of semis by next Friday. All at good profits, most could have been better, I've never been able to time a top.

Financial guy wants to start moving pre-tax to post-tax next year, needed to get some long term capital gains out of the way in the non-Ira accounts this year.

One and only time I can chime in, bought some shares back in 2013. before PS3 came, when they were beat down, and have held since.

OP if you want to buy it at a lower price, go and sell some puts that are a month or two out at whatever price you'd be happy to buy at.

If it doesn't go back down, then you keep the premium. If it does, you get your buying opportunity and the premium.

A couple weeks ago I trimmed my AMZN and DELL positions a small bit. Hoping to buy them back soon. But if they never trade back down there again…that's a WIN also.

I guess still hurts though. Sold a stock last year at .35 cents a share and now trading $2-$3 range.

My basis was near 10 cents... Lost probably $40 grand in profits? (don't think I can stomach working out the actual numbers)...selling too soon.

I do think the company is way overvalued now (zero revenues quantum company)... So gives me some solace. But still super frustrating.
