I think any team in the top 12 could win this thing. Top 6 for sure. It's going to be about who gets hot, who has the coaches making the right calls at the right times, and the team that has the most production from more than one or two teammates. One thing I've noticed about our team is that although we have LOTS and LOTS and loads and loads of talent, we don't have one true scoring leader. In most games it works itself out and we get production from 5-7 people slowly but surely. In the times we've struggled to score (first quarter - first half woes), we don't have that one star that puts the team on their backs and gets some easy buckets. This is where having a 5 player that can hit the bunnies consistently is critical. I long for a center that can jump up high and protect the ball for a layup. Use your body and get UP so their big also has to get up to attempt to block your shot (foul). I will say we have had games where Ciera is tremendous; and then games where she looks out of it. All athletes have bad games, but I wonder if some of it is the offensive scheme that is called. Maybe she's uncomfortable always hanging out up top and feels more comfortable in the middle of the block.
It's been one of the things that has frustrated me all season about this team. We somehow manage to get a 4-6 point lead, get a turnover or a missed shot, and cannot seem to hit that next shot to put us up 8-10. It seems we miss that next shot and the team we are playing hits a 3 and cuts our lead in half. You have a 4-5 point swing bc of that. Some of it is just poor execution. Some of it is just bad luck. That's what I'm hoping to see in the tournament. Good decisions; get the lead and keep the lead. Dagger to the heart so to speak.
Really not complaining! Love this team and the coaches and I do believe each player is doing what is asked of them. We just need to be hitting on all cylinders to have a shot at this thing.
