Three different angles confirm that would have been a
charge IF the Iowa St player (freshman, I think)
had not bailed out and moved her foot back and then kept backing up all the way to the baseline.

She was perfectly set way ahead of Jordan. Had she not moved back, and called correctly,
IOWA ST WOULD HAVE BEEN SHOOTING FTs FOR THE WIN.

Freshman mistake, thank God!

Fate was with us tonight!

Offensive charge is not a shooting foul, just a change of possession.

But, you are right, if she kept her space, it was a foul and the basket is waived off and Iowa State gets the ball.

Based on them putting their whistles in their pockets at the end of regulation, kind of think they would have done the same in OT.

From the sideline it looks like they were straight on but if you see the baseline angle, the one the calling official (the lead) would have seen, you'll see that she was more to the side. She probably still had legal guarding position to some extent (i.e. it wouldn't have been a block) but even had she not "bailed" its a no call. Especially in this game situation. She would have had to have been straight up with a hard charge for them to call it and it almost would have had to have been a double whistle situation (i.e. lead and center -- baseline official and the one around the free throw line extended). Obviously, they don't know if or when their partner is going to call something but what I'm saying is that in their last huddle during a TO, I'm sure the officials said, "whatever happens, MAKE IT BIG." By that they meant, don't call anything that Ray Charles couldn't call from the cheap seats.

This (i.e. what the OP is suggesting) was a no-call all the way and their supervisors are going to support it. I'd say that if it happened at the other end.

That defender (#21) was guarding Kayla Wells and couldn't leave her. So, she couldn't commit to stopping Jordan and tried to play in between. If she would have committed to the charge, Wells would've had a layup as time expired.

91 Lawyer- yes, she was to the side, but you'll also note Nixon was not going straight to the basket- she was heading "Northwest"- right into the waiting defender due to the other defender on her right side.

She lands right in the spot the defender vacated a split second before. If they woukda called it, is anyones guess, but it would have been a HELLUVA collision!

she was trying to reach around to poke the ball out, not foul. Intentionally fouling in a tie game with 2 seconds left and two of your teammate defenders between the ball and the basket would be about the worst play in basketball history (except intentionally dribbling out the game clock while losing ). she only tried to steal the ball.

I don't know, to me that shooters bounce and her ability to weave and get that shot off was much more improbable than call/no call etc.

officiating in bball is so subjective but Joens' little hop before some of her 3 shots looks like a walk to me--seems like all the ISU players used that same technique a lot.

I was really impressed by their team--but the outcome was great!

the Iowa State players got caught in-between on defense.

they weren't sure how aggressively to play Nixon's drive for fear of fouling.

that's the #1 reason why teams (with the ball) in that situation don't call timeout

The defender never established a position to draw a charge because she never intended to. Had she done so, Jordan would have pulled up or driven around her to the left.

Key is ISU did not want to risk putting Nixon on the line.

More interesting I thought was #1 on ISU was in perfect position to disrupt the shot but she turns her back and glides through, not even raising her arms Odd.
