Texas A&M's Jordan Nixon: 'It's OK that my marriage with basketball is on the rocks'

The junior guard has graduated while still starring for the Aggies, despite dealing with all the stresses of life

BY JORDAN NIXON
February 11, 2022

Jordan Nixon, starting point guard for the Texas A&M women's basketball team, has played in big games all her life. A McDonald's All American and five-star recruit out of high school, she led Mary Louis Academy to its first New York State Catholic High School championship in 2017. In last season's NCAA tournament, she scored 35 points in the Aggies' memorable 84-82 overtime victory over Iowa State. But that was nothing new, either: She's hit at least two other buzzer-beaters in her college career. This season, she's averaging 11.3 points, 4.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds for the Aggies.

Proud of her vulnerability and willingness to persevere through the trials. I hope that we will remember that these college athletes are humans who have lives off the court that affect their play on the court.

I read it today and was headed here to post it. Covid did a number on everyone especially our youngsters. Hang on tight as we spend a generation working through it. Some very good things could emerge including less stigma for mental health issues. But the goal isn't for everyone to seek attention via mental health concerns. I don't know the answer but the generation ahead of me and following me in our family has really struggled.

Great read. Sounds like this is her last year of basketball. Too bad. When she is healthy and able to penetrate the lane for layups and dish-outs to teammates, she is a real, honest-to-God difference-maker.

A&M's next coach will need to find a good point guard. I have the feeling next season will be quite the struggle.

Best of luck to Jordan. Smart girl. Basketball has been a part of my life since I was a kid. Even now, at 72, I think about it every day, even though my playing days are long behind me.

I have loved watching her play for our school. But I am gonna love watching her live her life even more. Thanks Jordan for how you have represented our school. But the important stuff is still ahead of you, and frankly, I am betting you do just fine. Life is a series of wins and losses.

There may not be time to do the job right, but there is always time to do the job over!!
