The student attendance thing is so difficult to solve. In football, A&M has none of the problems so many across college football are seeing because it is THE event - the big show in town and people want to be there and be a part of it.
Basketball is really different. Last year one of our alums donated a lot of money for cash student giveaways at men's basketball games and it has almost no impact. We had a big crowd for Kentucky because they are Kentucky and the students thought that we had a chance to win (which we did) and wanted to be a part of that event. However, the student attendance went right back to its norm even though tons of cash was offerred to one student who would win something thereafter.
I honestly think we need to go a whole different direction. Possibly food related and no I'm not talking about bad $1 hot dogs.
This is an interesting topic because our students aren't averse to WBB. Early in the season, it isn't unusual to see a bigger crowd at the women's games than the men's games. Now that is due to the women's season ticket base being so local (so not really students). Additionally, I think the biggest crowd we had in Reed two years ago was a women's game not a men's game - A&M vs South Carolina for the SEC title and there was a great student crowd there.
