Just listened to/watched Joni's radio show from Tuesday evening. It's a really informative and fun show. Tonight's guests included Chelsea Newton, MJ Johnson, and of course Joni. They talked about our first 2 games, the 3 players we just signed, what to expect from Duke, and gave some insight into road trips. One thing she does is take their phones away on road trips which I think is very smart. I can see why young women like playing for her. She's demanding, sets high standards, is so knowledgeable, and truly cares about the players. She's also a great communicator which makes the show enjoyable to listen to. If you go through the Facebook link, you'll be able to see the show. It's also nice to watch it after it airs because you can fast forward through the ads. I hope you'll give it a listen.

she said she's been doing it since before she was the head coach @ Georgia. Andy Landers did it. And MJ seemed to be looking forward to having an actual conversation with her roadtrip roomie.

I agree! MJ did seem to be looking forward to actually conversing with her roomie. What a concept, right? Lol I think Joni said they turn in their phones when they reach the hotel. I'm sure they get them back after tomorrow night's game so a little more than 24 hours without their phones. Will definitely make them more present with their teammates and coaches, and that's a good thing.

Actually the impression I got is the phones are collected once they are on the plane going to the away game & not given back until they are on the bus back to campus in College Station.

In a previous interveiw She said she didn't want the kids picking on the phone in the hotel she wanted them concentrating on what they had to do for the game.


She setting standards for a businesss trip not a vacation.......wtg coach.

The fact that an old man like Andy Landers did that isn't surprising. In today's age, it's a bit different.

In good times this will serve us well. During challenging times the phone might as well be arm sleeves ;-)
