Apologize if discussed before, but who came up with the idea of standing until the Aggies make their first basket? Was it the Reed announcer who orders you to stand up? Joni? It would be good to know if there was some reason for creating this "new tradition" or just something pulled out of thin air. People are giving each other embarrassed looks like, what is this?

It didn't just start this year

Did that in '70s.

Quite a few schools do this too (both men's and women's basketball).

It started here last year, I believe, women's basketball only. And apparently no answer to the question.

Many of us did it during the Blair years. Perhaps it's resurgent?

I was here for Blair's years, must have missed the standing group somehow.

Never recall doing this for GB years

On the men's side, this was something we tried when we opened Reed Arena and kicked off the Melvin Watkins era. We were so, so, so bad back then. There was one game where we didn't make a FG until until something like the 11:30 mark of the 1st half. We did make a FT or two, as I recall. The "crowd" stood through a couple of time outs and didn't sit down until the score was something like 23-5.

So apparently it was tried a couple of times in the past. I guess that would be the rationale for (whoever that person is) trying it again. Personal opinion, I hope it fades away like the previous times.

Lots of SEC programs do this. Tennessee does it religiously.

By a couple of times, do you mean like since the seventies? It was done then.
