Bluebird is a real estate firm focused on the acquisition and operations of multifamily assets throughout Texas. The company is focused on generating strong, risk-adjusted returns by investing in properties at an attractive basis in targeted markets, with compelling long-term fundamental and multiple levers to enhance income through value-add initiatives. Currently, the portfolio consists of roughly 1,500 apartments, while the company has plans to quickly expand further. Bluebird is seeking a Controller to oversee all aspects of the firm's financial operations. The ideal candidate is a CPA with strong experience in the multifamily real estate industry. The successful applicant will be highly motivated with a tremendous work ethic, have an analytical mindset with strong quantitative and technical skills, and thrive in an entrepreneurial environment. The position provides for significant long-term growth potential at Bluebird.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with team members and related third-party providers to manage the daily financial and operational functions of an entrepreneurial and growing real estate management company.
Demonstrate ability to understand financial goals and operate assets in their best interest.
Work in compliance with the company's financial policies and procedures.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for owners, investors, and lenders.
Evaluate weekly cash analysis to determine payment of bills.
Monitor bank account activity and verify that bank reconciliations are completed properly.
Ensure that debt payments and utilities are made on a timely basis.
Assess and record tax and insurance accruals.
Prepare and follow through on reserve draw requests and receipt.
Manage the annual budget process and implementation.
Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
Work with external accounting firms when necessary.
Prepare lender required paperwork when necessary.
Review tax and insurance obligations and budget for necessary reserve transfers.
Must be able to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect pertinent data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and initiate appropriate course of action.
Maintain a chart of accounts.
Represent the company in a professional manner.
Willing to perform other related responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 7 years of financial/accounting experience.
Multifamily real estate experience preferred.
Undergraduate degree in finance or accounting with a CPA degree.
Expertise in accounting expense software.
Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
Highly analytical.
Detail-oriented.
Strong work ethic and a self-starter.
Energetic, organized, creative, and highly motivated person with the ability to learn and work independently and collaboratively.
