I'm unfamiliar with their product, although a brief Google search reveals good quality. They just bought 150 acres next to me, so a lotta rooftops coming. It's in far NW Bexar County. Any insights as to the median price range, etc would be appreciated. Hoping they're at least a cut or two above Centex/KB…
I actually bought a Chesmar a few years ago after doing some research. My neighborhood in New Braunfels at the time was starting in the low 300s, with some of the floor plans and finish options getting you up to 450+. Company was professional to work with and didn't put on the hard sell. Average to below-average on communication after the transaction (when it came to our one and only warranty item), but it's warranty work, I wasn't expecting them to jump out of their chairs to help.
We have 60' frontage - too small for us but it was the first house we bought together and didn't have the funds to jump immediately to land. So there's definitely going to be a lot of roofs popping up. Workmanship is definitely a step up from DR Horton, KB Homes, etc. They use better materials than the budget builders from my experience as well.
The neighborhood attracted a good set of owners, I wouldn't have any concerns there. As a cross-section for you: our neighborhood is mostly families that are middle class (a few upper-middle class), a few older couples, but mostly 30-50 years old with kids. I know we have a car dealership sales manager, a few IT people, two people who own their own small businesses (electrician and plumber), a game warden, along with quite a few nurses, teachers, and police officers just to name a few.
HOA keeps it clean but wasn't over-bearing (at least ours isn't), so all-in-all values should hold well. Happy to finally be moving in the spring for more room, but wouldn't be concerned about a Chesmar neighborhood going up.
