I might be in the market for a new insurance provider. I've been with the same company for almost 20 years, and I think it might be time to see if there is a better deal. Any suggestions? I'm in DFW /Collin County if it matters.

It's like they just raise the rate every year until you push back.

I don't know Craig, but this is the way to go. An independent will shop several insurance companies for the best deals.

I was with Liere insurance for a few years. They would allegedly "shop around" to find me the best deal every year, but my insurance would magically continue to go up every year. Finally one year they said my new homeowners policy would be $2600 a year when I had started several years before that at $1300. I finally realized it was a complete racket. I went with Liberty Mutual and my home owner's policy was $1250 for identical coverage, and my auto was also about 30% less. I just bought a new house for close to a million dollars, and homeowners coverage on that monstrosity is only going to cost me about $2800 a year. Not a fan of Liere at all.

San Antonio. My new house (the one that is costing me $2800 for the year) has a pool and is approximately 4,600 square feet. My old house (the one for which Liere claimed their best rate was $2600) did not have a pool and was approximately 3,300 square feet.

I'm west of Houston; 3,300 sq ft house pool, barn, 2 acres and my insurance is 4K plus.

I'm in Katy and I'm getting mugged by USAA.
Supposedly they were great paying out during past hurricanes.

But I think I'm at the point that I will consider moving insurance coverage with the right broker helping.

My renewal jumped quite a bit due to an increase in dwelling coverage, I called my agent and requested my coverage remain the same as the prior year and my premium went down (some)

Woof. Usaa is terrible for home insurance. I've got quotes several times and they have never ever come close to whoever I end up going with.

We started with goosehead and they failed miserably, now using TxPro Insurance broker, nice guy I'm working with helped with a lot of additional questions and finally got us covered. Goosehead basically gave up.

Premiums are primarily driven by dwelling coverage, age of the home (roof), location and insurance score (past claims, credit, etc). Pools really don't have that big of an impact on premiums.

Insurance companies are taking advantage of the housing market. A 3,000sqft home may have a market value of $750,000+ but that doesn't mean said home should be covered for that much. Insurance doesn't insure the dirt.

Houston market can be tough, as a lot of carriers went to 2% deductible on wind/hail, but I'd be happy to look at rates for anyone looking.

The agent working on our policy omitted key facts about our disclosures to an insurer, which resulted in us being insured having the property inspected then being dropped.

The agent then lied to me on the phone saying it was disclosed, (this was after I had called the policy writer and gotten a copy of the disclosure list provided by the agent), then they found another policy at a high rate, secured it only to have it canceled because they didn't disclose our property fence properly.

Suffice it to say that I'm throughly pissed at them for their ineptitude and lack of professionalism.
