Question about windstorm insurance

I live in an area where it seems that everyone that has a mortgage has windstorm due to proximity to the coast. When I bought my house my lender didn't seem too concerned with it. I bought a policy anyway but I noticed that they left it out of all closing paperwork and out of my escrow, which only has homeowners insurance and taxes in it.

Windstorm insurance seems to be a bit of scam where I live because we are far enough inland that the hurricanes usually only mess up your roof, if anything, but the cost a yearly windstorm policy is like 20% of the cost of a roof and they only pay about 50% of the cost after deductible. This means that in 2.5 years of not paying for it you've already hit the amount they would cover if you got damage. At this point I've spent tens of thousands on windstorm insurance with $0 paid to me in claims.

If they didn't include it can I drop it?

I recently asked USAA about dropping windstorm. As expected, not an option.

Travelers said they could drop it but the savings were only a few dollars per year. This might have been due to my already high deductibles.

Anyone familiar with a company that might offer meaningful savings by dropping wind?

Here is the issue you will have if you drop it. If a named storm comes through and causes any damage other than flood (you need a separate policy for that as well) your regular insurance will not cover it. So lets say it takes off part of the roof or wind driven rain causes leaks at the doors and windows. Your primary insurance will say that is a windstorm claim not covered by your normal insurance. Water damage, especially in the walls can add up pretty quickly. I'm not an insurance agent and honestly get so upset at having to have so many different policies but if I learned one thing in the Harvey aftermath its that when these insurance companies have lots of payouts to make they start looking for ways to mitigate losses. I went round and round between flood and windstorm. Windstorm said damage was flood related, flood said it was a little from flood but more from wind and primary just washed their hands of the whole thing and said "Well it was a storm so we have no liability. Talk to wind and flood" This went on for months.
