Answer: of course they were. High value state schools and one high value private school with quite unbelievable church cash reserves and backing. BYU, Utah, Houston, Cincinnati, Arizona and ASU all logged great winning seasons while some of the legacy favorites ( Baylor, ISU and KSU) lagged a bit behind, although TCU had a winning season. Big 12 showed the foresight to gather them in quickly.

SEC showed itself to be once again severely overrated. A home game and couldn't even find the end zone against an ACC school.
