If you could play just one round in the Breckenridge, CO area in July... where do you play?

Keystone River if you want a true mountain golf experience with lots of elevation changes. Keystone Ranch if you want a more traditional layout (RTJ design) with mountain backdrops.

It's kind of a toss up. River is a fun track with lots of elevation. IIRC the replay rate is pretty good so you can play both courses (River & Ranch) for under $200 if you start early enough. River can be a little slow though in my experience.

Been a while since I've played Breck but I don't recall ever having any complaints about it.

Personally, I like Keystone River better than Breck… and I actually like Ranch more than River. But they're all good.

River over Breck for "1 round in the mountains".

For Breck, I think it depends on which 18 you get. Elk is pretty awesome (and hard, IMO, lots of water) and then Beaver and then Bear.

I'd still play keystone river though…

Every year is different up there but I'd imagine you'll have a real nice day there in late June. Just start early and layer up.

Keystone Rivers course

First week of July. Start earlier in the day (like 9am) before the afternoon rain comes in.

Yes, layers up top. Can easily start with a full fleece top and end up in polo only by the end.

Some years they are great and other years they get a lot of ice kill. I think two years ago, Breck greens sucked while the River Course was in great shape. I am sure it has been reversed other years.

Keystone didn't have a great year of snow, Breck was probably average or below average. Main thing is how warm it gets right about now and for the next 60 days.

I played the two Keystone courses and the Keystone River course is awesome. Loved the views from some of the elevated tee boxes.

Plan on locking my tee times down this week. We are for sure playing Breckenridge, but I'm kinda leaning toward Keystone ranch as the other course to play. Looking online it looks a little more playable, and less of a beating. With us already playing Breck which seems to be a mountain style course maybe it will be cool to mix it up with Ranch?

breck isn't really mountain style... there are 2 elevated tee boxes on the Elk 9. That's about it.

Rivers is TRUE mountain where it's basically impossible to walk with exaggerated elevations on tee boxes. For example, #1 is a par 5 that's easily a 100ft drop. #10 is an awesome downhill par 3... #16 and #18 are also crazy elevation drops... Also, way better views on Rivers course than Ranch.

If you want a meandering course with normal elevation (up hill/downhill) and creeks/water like some mountain golf... then go with Breck.

At Breck, try to get Elk/Beaver vs. Bear. Bear was kinda meh.

I'm not really set on true mountain golf. I've played in Banff so I've already checked that off the list per se. I am just looking for the better courses, golf wise. The huge drop offs, etc doesn't really do much for me. Not to mention my father in law will be playing with me, and he struggled golfing in Branson a few years back with the hills there. He's not in the best shape.

We are staying in Breck, and will also have the kids with us so we want to play Breck so they can ride along for a while, but if they get bored the wife's can easily go back to the vehicle and leave.

Keystone will probably just be a guys round.

Play Ranch, you won't be disappointed.

You can only play Red Sky if you stay at a Vail property or Condo. It's also over an hour from Breck.

Get your pro to call them, they should accommodate… and it's worth it. Depending on where staying in Breck, Keystone is maybe 20-30 mins also
