Recent grad ('17) and me and the wife are looking to move back to college station in late summer.

Avid golfer here - best membership recommendations in Bryan/Cstat? I know that initiation fees can be steep, but looking for best value for a 26 year old (whether that be through a CC or "players club" at another course).

Thanks in advance for any recs!

Without knowing your finances, Pebble Creek would probably be your best bet as a "starter" club. Average golf course in average shape. Good membership - most of them live in the neighborhood. Active club life / pool etc. This course would undoubtedly be your best value.

If you are an avid golfer, you will gravitate eventually to Traditions or Miramont when the course conditions at Pebble Creek start to annoy you.

Traditions is less expensive than Miramont. It is a top 30 in Texas type of golf course. Has been in better shape in recent years. Nicklaus design that is tough but not very fun for the 10 handicap and over crowd. You will lose plenty of balls if you don't hit it straight. A lot of play and too many non-member tournaments. Usually need a tee time. Home of the A&M golf teams.

Miramont is the top of the food chain in BCS. Highest fees but hands down the best course in the best condition. RTJ2 design that is a perennial Top 10 in Texas golf course. Even has 4 practice holes to work on your game with actual golf holes. Rarely if ever need a tee time.

Miramont is friendly but has a more formal feel than Traditions. Traditions members seem a bit more laid back.
Both clubs are great for this size university town.

Not trying to start a Traditions vs Miramont fight but that is what usually happens in this type of thread. 30 year resident of BCS just trying to give you an honest assessment of the country club golf scene in town.

The buy-in for Traditions to Miramont is pretty drastic, isn't it?

No doubt , but you never know OPs financial situation.

Having played both I think the Miramont experience is certainly higher end. The club house and staff and course are just on a different level as far as "nice". The course isn't particularly challenging but it's definitely a high end club.

Traditions course has something special to it though. Maybe just because I volunteered for several Aggie invitationals there in college and get the nostalgia feel, but there is a certain something about the course layout , difficulty, etc that make it attractive.

I'm not interested, but I am curious as to what the fees are at these places.

I've played both and much prefer Miramont. I'm not local and have no idea what the buy in for each are but the rumors of the buy-in at Miramont 15 years ago were pretty high.

Houston Oaks and Blue Jack are both 45 minutes away; again, if money isn't an issue.

Last I heard there is a waiting list at Pebble. Covid blew it up and lot of the younger members that were members at Briarcrest moved over when the City took it over.

All I can speak of is Traditions.

At 26 yrs of age you will qualify for a Jr membership at a reduced cost for a few years (6?) before upping to a full cost membership.

MGA is very active and inviting to all members. You can get a game every morning Tuesday thru Sunday

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you can't afford a resident membership at Miramont at your age.

Pebble or Tradish are your options.

And don't you have to be invited to join Miramont by a member?

Initiation difference between Traditions vs Miramont is something on the order of $10k vs $40k+

Don't know the exact numbers today, but that is what is was 5-6 years ago.

I believe buy in at Pebblecreek is around 7k, Traditions is around 14k, and Miramont around $55k. Junior memberships are a little cheaper.

(These numbers are from about a year ago so they may have changed)

Pebble Creek MGA prez here. We have a great group of players at PCCC. MGA has around 160 members and we average 40-50 players for monthly tournaments. We also have around 30 players every Friday and Sunday for skins game. All the side action you want.

Any questions drop me a PM.

Just joined Pebble in late Feb. Chad is easy to work with and will answer any questions you have there. Course is in pretty good shape.

I haven't joined the MGA, my game isn't ready for that, but I have played in "the RACK" which is the Friday/Sunday skins game. Good guys all around and welcoming.

The driving range is under construction right now, but moving along nicely. Hopefully will be reopened later this summer. The have mats and nets in the mean time, and practice chipping and putting greens are still open.

I think Miramont has a Junior Membership that up until 40 is a really good deal.

Do any of the BCS Clubs have non-resident memberships? Looking specifically at Traditions or Miramont.

Traditions is an extremely well run club. The out of town membership is a good value

This is a question for anyone willing to pitch in an answer...

I live in a neighborhood that sits on a rather nice fee-only GC outside of BCS. I'm an infinity handicap and have neither the time nor desire to play 18 holes at a time, but I do like to get out and hit occasionally. About once a week, usually an hour or so before sunset, one of my kids and I will take the cart out to the course after most of the players have cleared out. We usually play 4 or 5 holes then head home. There are a handful of other neighbors who we see doing the same thing from time to time. The GC workers haven't cared when they've seen us over the years.

We're looking at moving to BCS in the future, and wondering if there are any courses where I could get away with this??? I don't mind buying on another GC in BCS and joining a CC if they allowed resident members to do something like this without a tee time. It's just never been on my radar in the past.

Thanks everyone.

We live very close to PCC and last night I had to drive to an event at Traditions. Man, that is a whip of a drive. To me, it would be easier to get to High Meadow Ranch.

Grew up in pebble creek and 70% of my rounds were after 7pm and about 5 holes. As long as you don't get in the way of golfers, no one has a problem.

Thanks for the tips, all.

Sounds like Pebble is the best option.

Been here about 6 months and a&m golf club driving range is closed 80% of the time and any other range is off of mats.

Thanks again.
