Headed to Kauai and Maui for a couple of weeks. Looking to play one round of golf on each island.

Is the Kapalua Plantation course worth the $500 price tag? Or am I better off just going to Wailea or any of the other well known golf courses in Maui?

Any recs for Kauai golf? Golf on Kauai is a little bit of an unknown to me but I'm sure there's plenty of good golf to be played.

Thanks.

Play Makai in Princeville on Kauai

The Bay Course at Kapalua is also really good on Maui if you don't want to play the Plantation

Splurge on plantation! It's worth it

I played in July. Had pouring rain, crazy wind and heat. It was fantastic

The photos don't do the elevation changes justice or the views. First five holes I played were massive downpours.. I'm talking it looked like I jumped in the ocean every hole. Cart girl brought us a dry towel every hole. Service was great.

That rain was rolling off the mountain an above the course about every 10-15 min. It was pretty weird to watch it roll down in waves. We teed off in a down pour and by the time we were putting it had stopped, then you couldn't make it to the next box without it pouring again. On hole 6 it cleared up and got hit with 30mph winds gusting to 35-40. It was pretty warm that day, but the wind helped. Course isn't easy.. greens were tough and playing that course again would be a huge benefit with shot placement

Splurge on Plantation course. I did in May and it was worth it.

Also be prepared to drop another $500 in the pro shop afterwards.

Take a day trip from Maui to Lanai on the ferry, then play Manele Bay on Lanai. Ocean views from every hole, and a couple of holes with forced carries over the bay inlet cliffs. Spectacular course.

Plantation course was really really fun. While it can be tough because of the giant greens, you are also decently likely to finish with the same ball you started with. Love how wide it is.

Second this. That's one of the best courses I've ever played. Views are incredible.

Same boat here, I'd suggest Plantation and Manele. After that Wailea Gold or Emerald.

Also Makai I enjoyed more than Poipu Bay

Manele on Lana'i looks like it's for Four Seasons guests only. Otherwise I would take a ferry when we go to Maui in March. Plantation is worth the money imo.

This too.

Played Manele and Plantation on back to back days and that was about as good as golf will ever get.

I'd rate Manele just slightly above Plantation. It receives far less play.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm locked in on Makai for Kauai and Kapalua Plantation while in Maui.

Unfortunately, it looks like Manele is for Four Seasons guests only. Looks like an incredible course though.

They used to have two courses on Lanai, the Nicklaus course on the coast and an inland course by Greg Norman.

In 2009 I took the early ferry over, got shuttled by Jeep to the Norman course and after the round shuttled back to play the Nicklaus. Grabbed the last ferry out - great day of golf.

The Norman course had great elevation change and was very wooded. The course doesn't exist anymore, what a shame.

Here's the 17th

That might be the best looking golf hole I've ever seen.

Hmmm..I went to Lanai in 2015 or 2016 and played the course on the coast w/o being a resort guest.

Thats just a driver and a wedge out of the sand, then another wedge in and two putts for 5.

Played Makai in October. Loved the course and views. This is an elevated par 3.

I second (or third) the plantation recommendation. Worth the expense. Great course and experience.

I think yesterday was the last day of public play. Because it's a smaller tournament from a spectator standpoint and a limited field I'm sure it's one of the easier tournaments to setup for.

Tips were closed for the tournament and there was netting over some of the areas where the tour players drives and approaches will land but other than that course was perfect shape. Wind was up until the last 4 holes which made for some fun (and tough) drives. Played the regular tees (6700) but felt shorter with the number of elevated tees. Course would be a grind to walk, it was cart path only with the tournament next week. Highly recommend! 11 and 12 was the high point for me along with 18.

This. Princeville is maybe my favorite course anywhere. (Scenery wise)

And I think Bay Course is more fun than Plantation and has some ocean side holes. Go grab brunch or lunch at the clubhouse at Plantation and see the views but play Bay course.
