Trying to help a friends wife plan his 40th birthday, end of July this summer.

She is thinking something by lake and golf course doing a golf day and then a boat day and getting big VRBO for like 20 ppl. People likely coming from Texas, Arizona, Tennessee, Oklahoma ….

I was thinking lake travis, but was wondering if you all had any better suggestions.

I'm unsure of the golf courses although I think there are several in the area but this place was a blast for a really big group and that time of year is perfect.

Much easier than driving from San Antonio to Lajitas for a round of golf.

Random response as I've never mixed golf and lake for an outing.

Hot Springs Village Arkansas has many wonderful courses and there are few lakes but the prominent lake is Lake Balboa. Not sure about boat rental but then again you have Lake Hamilton and Ouachita in Hot Springs about 20 miles out. Arkansas seems like a good drive for all involved.

Opossum Kingdom has a lake and a golf course. Strange lake and a goofy golf course.
But if you wanna go all out and actually have great golf and like one of the best lakes... Lake Tahoe.

Not lake but it's beach with great golf, boating, fishing, and plenty of big VRBO options.

Well aware. I loved the challenge the guy took on to do SA to Lajitas and back with 18 in between.

Apologize for derailing the thread…not sure how committed you are to the lake deal, but La Quinta resort in Palm Springs is an awesome golf / sit at your private pool type combo. Seems to be the go to 40 yo b-day for my friends.

Have you ever Golfed in PS in late July? I have. It can be done and cheap. But with 20 in the group, about 3 to 4 will heat stroke out... And the pool temp will be 101.7 degrees.

Haha, good point - it's a dry heat! I shift my vote to Tahoe.

Just like Palm Springs in summer it's hot but Quintero in Peoria, Az is very near Lake Pleasant. Not far from Gold Canyon Dinosaur course are 4 lakes on the Salt River. Those lakes are really nice and in between them you can tube down the Salt.

I'll throw Canyon Lake out there with golf at Vaaler Creek GC.

I like Edgewood but it's overpriced. Ol Greenwood is my favorite there. Id highly recommend it.

There's a course about an hour north of truckee called Grizzly Ranch that is really nice as well. Played there in 2021.

You don't play Edgewood for the golf (even though it's a nice course). You do it for the views of the lake, especially the par3 on the beach.

He said he wanted something where they could golf and then do another cool activity, I think this is a great suggestion.

Also at Edgewood…. NEW SHOOTER COMING OUT!

Grand Lake, CO. Did it a few years ago and was a cool course. The lake is incredible.

Oh and then do Rocky Mountain National park? Not bad.

This is true too. Northstar is a nice track in north lake too.

Yep. The Elk herd as the sun sets is one of the cooler things I've experienced

Mad respect for the OP's friend's wife if she can pull in all the buddies from all different states to fly/drive in for the 40th bday to Texas let alone Tahoe..CO, Palm Springs... Wisconsin etc.

Also just saw the need for VRBO to house 20 people. Hard to do… unless you're going to Tahoe!

Did my bachelor party there to go skiing. We had 15 guys and stayed in an awesome 3 story house with a big game room and hot tub.

End if July? Somewhere north of the Mason Dixon line.

Yea. That's why I started with the 6BR house on a (Great) lake.

If you want to stay near DFW, Pinnacle out near Cedar Creek Lake is a decent course and I believe you can rent homes in that neighborhood on the water as well
