Looking to get a group out there with wives etc for a birthday weekend. For those who have been recently, Hows the course? Is there anything to do nearby for dinner/drinks and for the wives to do during the day?

I would stay in the Woodlands area if you want stuff for wives to do, There is nothing worth going to near Tour 18.

Construction along 1960 is also in full bore - just getting to/from the course is a bear.

Any particular reason you are interested in Tour 18? As CyAg says I'm not sure what a group would do in that area after golf.

Come on jja79 - it was plenty good enough for you to loan me money.

True but different deal.

Get in touch with me because I owe you a round at Houston Oaks.

Not tied to Tour18 other than we've never played it and it sounds cool. Also SA would be closer. Can likely get reciprocation on a private course too if yall have rec's there?

Tour18 is cool and its usually in good condition but it's run so incredibly poorly that I don't even f with it anymore.

Last time I played it we showed up and find out our tee time is right in the middle of a scramble and we were essentially a spot that didn't get filled. On the plus side I didn't hesitate to partake in the free booze and lunch getting handed out to the real scramble players.

There's also a decent chance your truck will get broken into while you're playing a 6 hour round.

Hell I don't know. That's why I'm asking on here. Like I said, I'm not married to the idea. But the idea of the course sounds awesome. It's too bad their management and logistics sounds like it's terrible. Will likely look elsewhere.

Are you from the area and it's like a staycation?

Woodlands resort wouldn't be bad, couple decent courses there, wives can get spa etc.

Hyatt lost pines near Bastrop is awesome and another option.

Not a bad idea. Stayed at lost pines before but never played. We're from south Texas

SA = San Antonio?

If so, JW Marriott Hill Country Resort would fit the bill for a family friendly golf getaway quite nicely. Not cheap, but you never need to leave the resort (which is how they like it).

Don't sweat the needling you're getting over Tour 18. If get it. If you've never been, it seems like a cool concept, and it is. When you live in the area and play it a few times it loses a little shine. But, I have had a number of fun rounds there, have never had my truck broken into, and they are the last course in the Houston area that still has Golfboards available (which are a BLAST if you haven't tried them).

I'm going to the JW in SA next weekend for a couple of days on TPC SA. Never a bad choice.
