Does anyone know of or have spin rates by loft? The old saying was 1,000 rpm per iron. 7i - 7,000, 9i-9,000. But as irons get stronger I think that becomes less accurate.

JPX 919 7i is 35* loft, Mizuno Pro 225 7i is 30*. The Mizuno Pro spin is closer to a 6i rate which makes sense since it is so mich stronger.

Or are new clubs designed to be that much stronger and still spin at historical norms? I just cannot get that new 7i above 6200 to save my life.

I've always used the trackman tour averages as my guide. Looks close to the ratio you mentioned…7 iron at 7100. If you're making solid contact and not getting enough spin you might need different shafts.

But on track man what is the tour average loft of a 7i. These days not all 7i are the same

I do not want to change my swing as I think I should hit the new 7i like track man says for a 6i, 6200 as based on loft the 7i really is closer to a 6i historically

FYI, I found this on another golf forum as I was going down a rabbit hole. No idea if it's accurate but makes sense.

Quote:

Whatever the static loft of each iron is, multiply it by 200 and you get the ideal spin. For example, 46* PW x 200 = 9200 RPM backspin. If you look up the TrackMan PGA Tour averages and divide their 3-iron to PW backspin numbers by 200, they will come very close to the static lofts of each club.

So a 30* 7i "should" spin at 6,000.

I know, I am using a swing caddie so all I'll I get is swing speed, ball speed, launch angle and spin rate.

I think the Trackman stuff is strange.

When I hit at the simulator place, trackman gives me all the data. OK. I have never in my life backed up a ball more than a foot when hitting a wedge into a green.

With the trackman, I'll hit a wedge and the machine gives me a bounce and 8 feet in reverse on the green.

Based on the numbers I get, I have lower than average spin on long irons and higher than average on 8-Ws

Trackman can be set up a number of different ways.
You can alter wind, green speed, firm or soft greens etc.
May just be the Trackman settings ??
