Strike Contact

This is where I consistently make contact on chips and pitches. I don't have this issue with full shots.

Hitting it where shown below doesn't cause much problems but occasionally a miss hit is on the hosel and I'll shank a chip during a round and my entire swing will gradually break down after that until I can't even finish a hole. I'm a 12 handicap that averages upper 80s that occasionally can't even finish a round.

Any tips for moving that strike contact back to the center of the club on pitches and chips? When it starts to creep into the full swing I exaggerate what feels like a loopy motion in my swing re-routing the club to a good position…but there's not time to do that on a 20-50 yard pitch.

I'm about to bend a club and make an 80 degree wedge so I can take full swings around the green lol

Sometimes this is caused by your weight shifting closer to the ball as you swing/chip, which that can be set up by your weight at setup being too much toward your heels -> if you start with your weight back, it naturally shifts to keep you balanced during the chip/swing. Or sometimes an amateur's hips shift closer to the ball, leaving your hands less room to come thru. Those are the first places I'd check

On your takeaway it's easy to take it back "inside" meaning you need to swing out to get back. I've found that exaggerating the takeaway to be on the shotline helps, almost to where it feels like you're "outside". Seems like that would help your contact point to slip back to the middle.

I wouldn't get too technical with this

Next time try hitting some out on the toe...when u can do that a few times in a row try hitting some on the heel

Then find the middle. Don't make it into something technical

I recommend these irons...if you have hosel rocket issues. My buddy Gorilla has been using this set for like 20 years.. F2 irons, Face Forward, can't shank em.

So yesterday, one of our other buddies was at the Titleist Performance Institute private Q&A session with designers and asked why Titleist wouldn't design shank proof irons like F2, knowing Gorilla has not shanked in 20 years with these. He said there was a 10 second silence and no one knew about these. Then one designer said maybe marketing thought they couldn't sell them.

When I get heely with any club, it's hips thrusting forward. I focus on keeping my right heel down through contact.

This is not legal advice. I am not your lawyer.

This is a great example of where golfers mind f*** themselves

This sounds like a jerk response but the answer to how to hit it in the middle is to try to hit it in the middle. Your body will make the adjustment...it might be your hips moving forward or your club path might be messed up....but if you try to hit the middle of the face by thinking about your hips your screwed. Try hitting it in the middle and let your body adapt to it....you will end up playing golf swing rather than playing golf.

Trying to do the opposite of what your doing helps develop feel because your defining what each end of the spectrum feels like....that's why I said hit it on the toe.

You have to figure the golf designers were silent because they were trying to control their inner monologue:

"we design clubs for people who know how to play golf"

Looks similar to the old Cleveland VAS irons.

That's the wedge I practice in the yard with and it's covered in foot spray obviously. That's not my gamer.

I would try and hit off toe, middle, and heel on those pitch shots and hit that exact same spot no matter what.

Culprit appears to have been getting the club too far inside. Have remedied (at least temporarily) by keeping my hands in front of me on pitches.
