Throwing out the possibility of LIV offering..For those that know the ins and outs of qualifying for the PGA Tour. What would Sam's eta for appearing consistently on tour be? I know based on his PGA U rankings he gets a little head start but I've never really followed college players from graduating to tour arrival.

Top PGA Tour University player gets automatic tour card.

2-5 go to last stage of Q school and exemption on KFT.

Both of those mean he is potentially full-time competing next year. More likely 2 years.

But he's going to have to find some speed or distance somewhere to actually compete at an elite level on tour (depending on how they roll the ball back).

Dude needs to dedicate work into getting more distance and work on his approach/short game. The difference i noticed between him and the pros were the amount of spin the pros coupd put on the ball onto the green. And the proximity to the hole they gave themselves. Seemed like sam was 30 feet from the hole anytime he made the green. He has talent, but has to dedicate all his time to his craft.

Our guy has the best score since 56 at the cut; then is second best thru 54 and you have "wisdom" to share. Cmon man.

Actually Sam was far above average this week with driving accuracy, pitching, and even approaches.

He didn't bogey a single hole when he had GIR. He had the best driving accuracy of the entire field, which is what you have to do if you aren't long.

He was 11th in SG-approach, 5th today alone. 19th tee to green for the week.

Distance was a minor drawback that hurt his SG from the tee and putting definitely let him down today (46th of 52 competitors). But his approach and pitching was elite this week, especially given his longer approach distance.

He's got game to compete. This should help him mentally. That's what he needs to know he can do it in crunch time. Rahm is a hardened professional. Lots of examples of guys who won big and that were game managers. It is there, but you have to have the mindset.

In Sam's interview before he went into Butler Cabin he said he needed to get stronger so he could get more speed and more distance. He also admitted that he needs to get in the gym and get in better shape. Said he got tired over the weekend and lost his legs.

Tour players might be the most highly skilled labor on the planet. Sam did a remarkable job to compete with the very best in very harsh conditions. Guys like JT, Spieth and Rory have transformed their bodies over the years. Sam already recognizes he needs to work on conditioning. It will be fascinating to see the transition over the next five years.

Spin is both a blessing and a curse. When you're are hitting two to three clubs longer into into greens than your playing partners (Rham and Brooks), just hitting the green is a much higher priority. Ex is 18 3rd round on Sunday morning where Rham hit 4 and Brooks hit 5 iron and Sam hit 3 or 5 wood (a wood into a par 4) in those conditions and was the only player to hit the green.

He needs fitness (he's a taller corey pavin or Mike Wier in stature), and ball speed. His accuracy, putting and short game is tour ready.

If a ball roll back comes to fruition it hurts players like Sam and others who can't hit it 300.

Joaquin Niemann should be his role model. Similar build and virtually identical swings. Joaquin is plenty long enough. Sam needs to figure out how he does it and copy it.

It hurt Sam being paired with the 2 headed monsters Koepka and Rahm though. I was proud of how he held it together playing with 2 of the best in the world, who happen to be household names, and are also significantly longer than he is. If he blew up and shot +10 it would be understandable. He proved alot and won over a lot of folks this weekend.

If I were coach Kortan I would wear my caddie jumpsuit on recruiting trips

Sam held his own at both the US Open and The Masters - arguably two of the toughest tests of golf out there. He has enough game. The question is consistency and stringing four great rounds together.

I guess i had a misdiagnosis. I said he needed to work on his control/short game/approach but really all of that could be solved with more speed.

Through Friday's round Sam beat the defending Master's champion Scottie Scheffler by 7 shots and Max Homa by 8 shots. They were his playing partners Thursday and Friday. I would say he has plenty of game.

It's just going to be really difficult to predict if or how quickly he gets to the PGA Tour.

He's going to get some good starts (7 I believe) over the summer on the Tour - if he can put together some tournaments that look like this past weekend, he'll have a chance at earning enough points to get a card.

Otherwise, I'd really say KFT Q-School and beyond becomes it's own thing - those KFT guys can really play and there's a lot of them trying to get to the big tour.

Would performing well at the US Open and Open Championship this year help his chances to get his card sooner?

so basically he will have 7 opportunities to bring it and can bypass the grind? But if that doesn't get him it, he will have to pay his dues on the KFT?

He'll have 7 chances to earn enough points that would put him into the Top 125 category.

If he doesn't do that, he's exempted into the KFT Q-School finals where there will be 5 spots for the PGA Tour and 40ish spots for the KFT up for grabs.

If he's not in the Top 40 at Q-School then he's playing in the PGA Tour Canada/South America.
