Is the course in any better condition than it was this time last year? Playing in a scramble there next Friday.

I head campus course is starting to lose some greens? Losing grass and any ball mark is powder trying to replace it. Anyone played it recently?
Place was a straight up goat ranch when I stopped and played there last summer. Won't be going back409Texag said:
Legendary oaks down the road is pretty fun & cool layout for a small town course. Idk what kinda shape it's in though

Played the Campus course last weekend. How the hell they can charge a full price green fee for that is mind blowing to me. Typical of the A&M admin mindset, though, Don't be concerned with value, just overpay and stfu.

This is a horrible idea and I pray it never happens! I play there all the time and trust me there's a ton of students there already and none of them are intimidated I assure you! Not to mention I doubt very seriously that Sterling Golf has much interest in a 9 hole course either and if they leave then that's the end of the course completely in my opinion.Bunk Moreland said:Ag4life80 said:

I mentioned this on a thread about the campus course a while back...but given that the teams don't even use the course as their official course...the best thing to do would be a complete re-do and built out a 9 hole course on half the property, and mixed use area with the other half, to include a lighted pitch & putt course, general hang-out spaces where food trucks could pull up and create a nice outdoor area for that side of campus.
A ton of college students who don't play/are intimidated by going out to a golf course would love to have fun on a pitch and putt course. Anyone who still wanted to play real golf on campus could do so and it would be a lot less for them to have to maintain.

Thought the exact same thing when I played Pecan Lakes about a month ago. Full price and NO WARNING that 6 of the greens are makeshift. Meaning the cut a hole for the pin, scalped the grass with a weedeater and then spray painted a 10 foot circle around the flagstick. TERRIBLE. Think I have played my last round at Pecan Lakes, used to really enjoy that course.Ag4life80 said:

Exactly. The freeze was the problem and the night time temperature hasn't been high enough for grass to grow as much as needed. It will improve soon.Mr. Nussbaum said:
Lots of courses in south Texas are having green issues due to the freeze earlier this year. Some with covers, some without. Gotta maintain moisture in the soil when you're going to below freezing for an extended time.
At some point A&M is responsible for the product that represents it. I get the contractual liability, etc, but A&M does a really good job of hiding behind varying 'firewalls' and not standing up for the paying public. This is kinda like Kyle Field concessions, at some point stand up for your alumni/students and see that right is done by them.CCred92 said:Sterling runs the course.
