I'm not much of a gearhead type, and don't typically care about any new club releases, but I am very interested in the new TM Mini Driver. 300cc head, 11.5 or 13.5 loft. So it sits somewhere between a 3W and D. What I'm not sure of though if its meant to replace the D or the 3W in the bag.

I hit a nice 3W (about 230) and 5W (~215). I struggle pretty mightily with driver consistency. If I could get a much more trustworthy driver in the 250 yd range I'd be thrilled.

Anyone toyed around with this year? Bonus the retro look is very slick.

One of my golf buddies has one. Plays to a 3hcp and a ton of competitive golf. It's a 3W replacement for him. He'll break it out on particularly tight holes or where regular driver is just gonna be a bit too much club. Then occasionally off the deck on par 5s

If you struggle with driver, I'd recommend finding the right loft and a shorter shaft in a 460cc driver until you find more consistency vs buying a club that shrinks the head by 1/3 and still has a 44" shaft.

If you look around you can find the Callaway Mini Driver that was made 5-8 years ago. Very similar. I have one if anyone is interested.

Take a couple driver lessons and get fit for a driver. I wouldn't waste time money and effort with a gimmicky club that has a small purpose.

If I just had f you money to toss around, I'd definitely get one. Perfect for driver off the deck, but that's an extreme luxury purchase for $499z. If it was $199…I'd have it yesterday

"Learn to hit the club you have" isn't the quick fix answer I was hoping for

TaylorMade already tried this once before and it didn't seem to be a hit. What's different about this one, except it's a new niche product?

I view it as a luxury nostalgia item mostly. I don't think you'll see this in a ton of golf bags, but for rich guys with money to throw around for a driver off the deck fun club in the bag, sure.....I view it more like a 2W

I got the SLDR mini back when it came out and it was my goto club since I had issues with driver. Now I gave it to my cousin and he hits better with it over his driver. As others said get fitted for a driver instead.

LOL. I say buy a new club, just not THIS one. Go for one that is 50% larger and get fitted for a shaft that is similar in length.

I had the mini SLDR a while back as well. Hit some great tee shots with it, but it was harder to hit off the fairway for me than my 3W. Had it until the shaft snapped in half on me after a drive and never got it replaced.

Would be interesting to see how the new version has been upgraded.

The nostalgic design similar of the old school TM driver.

Seriously this wouldn't have near as much chatter/buzz if it wasn't for the throwback design.

a friend of mine ditched his 460cc driver for a mini driver since he always had trouble finding fairways off the tee. he carries the mini driver about 20yds further than his 3w but gets a great roll-out and is way more controlled.

he's down to a 5ish handicap from around an 8 since he's made the switch. also fwiw, he is a long hitter so the benefit of more control far outweighs the yardage loss (he averages around 290 using this, would be around 310-320 if in the fairway with full size).

I had the same issues and distances as you. Everyone tried to talk me out of the mini driver and I bought one anyway. It swings like a 3W and is consistently 20 yds longer than my SIM2. The short shaft and smaller head makes it easier to swing for me. The taller club face makes it easier to hit off the tee. It rolls out like a dream. I tee the ball down lower, more to the middle and let it rip. I haven't hit a slice with it yet! My only complaint is the sound. More of a thud vs a crack. Mine is last year's model.

I have one as well. Can't hit it consistently enough to make it worth taking something else out of the bag, especially with my regular driver being one of the most reliable clubs I have. It's in the Bucket of Misfit Clubs.

I have a Callaway Mini Driver, too. Love it off the tee, but...I can't hit it off the ground, and I can get the same consistency from my driver by choking down a bit, so the mini is out of my bag.
