My wife is scheduling an extended weekend for us on Galveston in July and Id like to work in a round of golf. I know moody gardens has a course, id assume it will be packed though so kind of hesitant. I don't want to be forced into a random foursome and play super slow because its packed.

She would be riding along as well.

Any other option on the island or relatively close across the bridge?

In my experience if it's during the week Moody isn't normally that bad....With that said I prefer the Wilderness in Lake Jackson over Moody.

Lake Jackson is going to be quite a haul from Galveston island

Moody is about it. It's a golf black hole from the island to about Clear Lake.

I do kinda recall a poster on here who was a member and has offered to get folks on Galveston CC course.

And I've never had an issue with pace of play at Moody. Like mentioned on a weekday or early in the morning it's not bad. Plus early in the morning the wind isn't as brutal.

Played Moody yesterday. Course was in good shape and I enjoyed the routing. But if the forecast says windy, do not go. It was almost miserable, I had to hit a driver on a 220y par 3 into the wind and I still came up 30y short of the green. If the ball got 20ft in the air it was ballooning up and coming back at you.

The Bayou in Texas City is the closest course to the island. It is a cheap muni. It is fun to play and will never be mistaken for Augusta. It is usually pretty empty during the summer. Wherever you play, make sure you bring your bug spray.
Play Moody.

Was going to post this same thought. I know exactly what hole you're referring to. Hit the same shot myself.

Just finished a round at Moody, pace of play wasn't bad at all finished in about 3.5 and that was with a threesome of older gents in front of me to begin and then a twosome right in front on the back.

I played WAY better on the back actually had a few par's which is good for me.

The front 9….every green was almost like glass way too many 3 putts.

I appreciate the heads up on 12 and 13 playing those into the wind. Especially 13 the par 3, I hit a 3i off the tee and put it on the green with a little run up stinger. Very happy to make a par there.

Ha! Bet you got behind my dad and his old timers group. I think their tee time was around 0930 today.

Conditions like that are what I prefer on that course. Great examination on my thought process and club selection.

Just played moody last weekend. Greens were immaculate. Course is in great shape. Went decked out in maroon and got paired with a dude with all longhorn head covers and a couple bros from Lousiana. It was a great time.

Pace of play was awesome. Wind wasn't bad (went at 7am tee).

Yeah 18 there is tricky. All of us "went for it" on that second shot. All four of us got wet.

I think 9 or 10 was another par 3 where the wind picked up or we shot it with the wrong club given the conditions.

I thought it was a fun course. Shot a 105 lol

Nah, I tee'd off at 7:50 and the guys I was behind only played 9. But it was fun.

I posted after I got home and the wife and I went to lunch at Buffalo Cafe…great joint by the way

Beacon Lakes is a lit up course off of 646 (just past Buccees). It's not worth playing in the day time, but it's pretty fun to golf at night! Day time, Moody is the only answer unless the greens at Timber Creek have gotten better than they were 2 years ago when I lived there.
