It is generally very windy there. Keep it low.

Don't go over the green. Especially treacherous on some holes if you go long.

Keep it in the fairway if possible.

I know these suggestions might sound simplistic but they work at Wildflower.

Have fun - its enjoyable but not great course

Heard that I t's in the best shape it's ever been. I grew up out there but haven't played there in over a year.

There's not much to it. Greens are have a good amount undulation and is the only defense.

I've heard there are some 90 degree doglegs, is that true?

No 90 degree doglegs.

The course is in the best shape it has ever been in. I was a member there from 2015 to about 2021 when I quit playing golf because of my kids sports.

It is a fairly difficult golf course. There is a lot of OB and water hazards. it is not the most memorable layout and has several great holes but no stretch of holes where your like 'damn that was a great stretch of holes'. if that makes sense. But it is pretty hard to score on, especially if you don't take advantage of the par 5s. There are just not a ton of birdie holes.

Greens are fast. Or have been. And hit the ball straight off the tee or you will be in for a long day.
I don’t say this in a braggedocious way. But it’s true. I’ve been right about everything.

1, 7, 14, and 18 are all pretty sharp doglegs but not 90 degrees. 7 being the most dramatic of the bunch. With a stiff south wind and a tee shot that doesn't hug the left side of the fairway, you're gonna have a straight downhill, blind second shot that's around 180-200yds straight into the wind.

I really dislike the course. Not an enjoyable design at all IMO. And maybe the conditioning is nicer now but I've never in my life played it and thought "wow that course was in good shape."

If you played it right now I think you would. It has slowly every year gotten better, at least since I first played it in 2015.

I agree with you though on not really liking the design. It has a few holes that are good holes by themselves, but as an overall course it is a really strange layout.

Unfortunately up here it is about all we have. Now that I am a once a month golfer instead of a twice a week golfer I go play better layouts.

I never played Leon Valley. It closed a couple of years before I moved here. I have been back in it a little and it is a beautiful piece of property. Pretty sure the city is finally converting at least some of it to park land.

that place was a goat pasture with some interesting characters. saw this one old guy always out there hit the ball cross-handed. his drive would only go 200 yards but it was straight every time

WF is in great shape right now. With Ridgewood in Waco under construction and Cimarron in Georgetown still struggling (member here now), there's probably not a club within 60 miles of Temple that's in better shape.

At least to me, condition of the course and specifically the greens will always trump layout/bones. If it were the other way around Mill Creek would be at the top of everyone's list

These were sent to me by a buddy a couple weeks ago. FWIW, I've played WF thousands of times over the course of my life and I've never seen it like this…
