I heard some of the Denver girls complaining about the heat. If they could only experience 18 holes in August!!
And it was muggy today but not very hot. At all.
This is the first time I have ever walked this course. I thought the cup placements made for very tight landing places on the greens. Multi tiered greens, cups set in narrow parts of greens and the infamous green with a sand trap in the middle of the green. I thought most pin placements were tough.
You're exactly right.
Easiest pins were front right on #2, middle right on #5, back left on #7, back right on #12, and front of #14. That's it. 5 "easy" pins. The rest were either a fair challenge or really tough
For anyone who hasn't seen/played The Oaks, the greens are subtle and brutal. They are generously sized I guess, but simply hitting some of these greens is not enough. There are ridges everywhere waiting to re-direct poorly read putts.
On a different note, some of these girls can MOVE a golf ball. I know they shortened up the tee boxes quite a bit, but I saw some tee shots today in places that my male buddies can't even pretend to hit.
Young lady named Maria from NMSU wasn't the longest off the tee, but she laid down a three-under back nine that was nearly surgical. Fairways, greens, and lots of birdie putts.
