why is it such a no no? I mean people walk all over the greens all day, but yet when your group is on the green its frowned upon to step on there line? Is there something obvious I am missing why it's considered bad?

I think it was more from back in the day when we wore the half inch metal spikes. Some fat guy dragging his feet a bit will mess up the line. Now I think it is just courtesy.

Yeah, I think it's just courtesy and etiquette more now. It still bugs me when somebody steps right on my line, because I try to be pretty conscious of not doing it.

Plus… they fixed the dumbest rule in golf and now you can actually tap down spike marks and whatever dumb stuff that has transpired on that green before you had your look at a working man's bogey.

I don't do it, but in the spikeless era, I don't care if someone steps on my line. I do mind if they are a dumbass about their shadow (mostly if in my vision and moving) while I'm trying to putt

The only things that bother me as far as impact to the actual green are (1) people who don't fix ballmarks and (2) foot shufflers.

…and my biggest peeve, don't rake traps. Just so lazy and selfish.

My pathetic putting is blamed for a lot of things, and walking through my line is just one of them.

My biggest gripe is fellow golfers, who stand directly in back of the hole, on my putting line while I'm trying to line it up and then putt.

It's to keep people like me, I mean like Patrick Reed, from having the ability to alter the path of your ball by putting all their weight on the heel of the shoe and basically putting a "dip" in your balls path. ....Or at least it might be ???lol

First off, you walk on the green not knowing where everyone else is putting from. For your group, it's just common courtesy even though it probably doesn't do much. My issue is the old farts that drag their feet like they are dancing.
