My brother lives just north of white rock lake and we're working on a family weekend including he and I going golfing while we're in town.

Any recommendations for the area or within reasonable driving distance. I'd like to stay $80ish or under maybe no clue with the area though.

Not looking for anything amazing but not crap. Thanks in advance

Tenison Highlands. Firewheel Bridges. Pecan Hollow. Distance increases but quality improves as you progress thru those 3

Tension Highlands is going to be closest. Decent track.

Cedar Crest and Stevens Park are both very good layouts. South Dallas but not too far.

Keeton Park is fine. They have the motorcycle carts (need to book in advance).

None of these places are crap in my opinion. All well within budget. All are Dallas muni courses so to get a decent tee time you need to be Johnny on the spot for booking. They fill quick.

Sherrill Park, Pecan Hollow, Irving, and Firewheel are all solid options. These will be crowded on the weekend as well.

Cedar Crest lost its greens again. All sand right now. Friend learned the hard way on Sunday. Sherrill Park would be on my list, but its greens have been poopoo too this spring

Random question Dallas golf related. Years ago, like over a decade I played a course that I was told was next door to the Cowboys club? Any ideas there?

Grapevine muni. Great track. A haul from LH, but would be worth it

Grapevine is a good course, very fun to play.

It's the slowest course that I've ever played. Hands down.

Man that's a bummer about Cedar Crest.

Stevens greens were in rough shape last time I was there a few weeks ago.

I'd recommend Pecan Hollow if you are trying to stay within 20-25 minutes. I'm hopeful Sherrill Park will come around. They hired an Aggie last year to replace the old super who mostly sucked, and he's done a lot of good work already. But between the hole he started in, the spring where we had some intermittent cold that stunted growth, and I'm sure some level of limits on funding, the greens aren't there yet. But I have hopes for the next month or two after we get a good stretch of peak growing weather.

Tenison Highlands and Firewheel Bridges are good options too, but I haven't played either recently so cannot vouch for greens

Also heard the same about Cedar Crest. They shut down for 3-4 months last year to redo them. Some heads may need to roll.

Stevens Park is the most fun and consistently nice.

No driving range which is the only bad part.

I like Stevens, but if you like to hit Driver play somewhere else. Its too short IMO.

I would play Tennison before Stevens.

Agree. I worked downtown for years and it served as a convenient nearby course that has some cool, unique aspects. But it is definitely different. Tips out at a little over 6000 yards with 6 par 3s, and there is a 5 hole stretch in the middle with no par 4s. I like it as an occasional change of pace, but definitely for the type that doesn't mind a heavy layup/shotmaking course

FYI - Stevens punched and sanded greens this morning. I live around the corner

How long does sanding etc take to subside. We're looking at mid July so it's not an issue at the moment

You will be fine! usually 4-6 weeks. Will probably be in pretty good shape by then.

I grew up in that area and Sherrill Tennison Firewheel and Stevens were my go to courses on a limited budget.
So I echo those suggestions.

I don't remember Tennison Highlands name but that maybe has been renamed since I play last

GolfNow has a good deal on Firewheel Bridges

Buffalo Creek in Rockwell isn't far as well.

My dad and I liked Coyote Ridge in Carrollton but that was near his offices for work

If it takes that long they did it wrong. This time of year greens are generally "playable" after a week and back to as good as they will be in 2-3 weeks.

I live in the same area and am a member at DAC but the Mesquite Golf Club is a pretty good muni most people forget about that is an easy drive.
