Headed to England Monday evening. Eight of us will play eight rounds in seven days beginning on Wednesday.

Pretty excited about the line-up. Four of the top 5 in England and 6 of the top 10. One of the two courses that are not in the top 10 is hosting the Open Championship this year, Royal Liverpool.

Here's the itinerary

5/31 Sunningdale Old Course (#2 in England)
5/31 Sunningdale Old Course (#5)
6/1 Swinley Forest (#4)
6/2 St. George's Hill (#9)
6/3 Formby (#23)
6/4 Royal Lytham & St. Anne's (#7)
6/5 Royal Liverpool (#15)
6/6 Royal Birkdale (#3)

We will fly into Heathrow and spend four nights in Surrey, then travel up to the coast on Saturday 6/3 and spend 4 nights in Southport before flying out of Manchester.

Group ranges in age from 37 to 65 and handicaps from +2 to 12.4 with 4 of us right in the middle between 6.4 and 7.4. I have known everyone in the group for 20+ years, and when I put the trip together the seven guys who are joining me, are the first seven who were invited.

Will post pictures if anyone is interested.

Will try to post pics as we go.

For anyone considering an England trip, one of the nice things is that they don't book up so far in advance. Several of these courses don't even start taking bookings until the first of the year.

That's a good list! Enjoy and post lots of pics. Meanwhile, I will be jealous in a good way.

Well, I intended to post photos daily, but that obviously did not happen. Just boarded my return flight out of Manchester so I thought I would post a couple from yesterday's round at Royal Birkdale.

Loved this golf course, and will provide more photos from here and the other courses in the next couple of days.

Birkdale was my favorite of the Open Rota courses. Not trying to be controversial in regards to St Andrews, Carnoustie, Royal Troon or Turnberry, I just really liked the layout and the quality of the golf holes.

I loved Royal Birkdale. It is up there with Royal Dornoch as my two favorite courses that I have been able to play.

However this trip started at Sunningdale so I will drop some photos from there. What was so cool about Sunningdale is that it felt like they just found a golf course there. Add in the fact that you are 25 minutes from LHR, but feel like you are in the complete middle of nowhere.

That's really one of the great things about the older courses in the UK. One that comes to mind for me is Gleneagles King's Course. You can tell that the builders didn't move a lot of dirt to route the course. They took advantage of a unique topology to lay the course on.

Gorgeous.

Played 14 holes of the King's Course at Gleneagles last year. Then it rained so hard that the course flooded and was unplayable, but I agree on the feel.

Next up was Swinley Forest. Probably the most "exclusive" place we played. We actually saw Prince Andrew here. I thought this course was quite similar to the Old course at Sunningdale. I probably liked the Sunningdale Old course a little better, but I am not sure I could point to anything specific leading to that ranking.

St. George's Hill was next. I was up until about 3:00 am before this round so it was not pretty. The course was great though, and the members very welcoming. Spent a few hours after the round having drinks on the veranda with a few members.

One of the guys in my group requires a cart and the "cart" here was something else.

Apologies for the double post from St. George's Hill. Just wanted to add that the "house" in the last photo is not the clubhouse, but it is the one residence that is visible from the golf course. It is massive, and apparently indicative of the homes in the area.

Thanks for sharing!

Houses around St George's Hill are huge! From what I've been told many are tied to Russian oligarchs.

Great pics. Very different look from the normal linksland golf we're used to seeing over there.

No pics or description of the cart, or "buggy" as I recall they called them over there? Something like this?

I will wrap this up with a few shots from Formby, followed by Lytham & St. Anne's, then Royal Liverpool and Royal Birkdale.

I only have a few photos from Formby which is odd because we had four American groups ahead of us that thought a five hour round was a good way to end their Saturday.

Royal Liverpool: these guys were super welcoming and gracious hosts.

Finally Royal Birkdale. The best of the bunch, in my opinion.
