Looking at new clubs

I did some lessons before summer. And played a few rounds and this past week went and did a fitting to get some idea of what to shop around for. I told the guy going in I was just look for specs and ideas because I'm probably looking in the used market or the direct to consumer route.

We tried KBS, project X and dynamic gold. It appeared the KBS were the best fit. What he told me was the KBS tour 120…however looking on their site I don't see the "120" moniker just tour and tour lite. Google tells me the tour lite replaced the tour 90, does anyone know if the tour is what was formerly called the tour 120?

As far as heads we hit the t200, t300, callaway apex, another callaway and a ping. It quickly became apparent the titleist were striking the best. Not too much difference between the 200 and 300. Probably a little better at the moment for the t300 but I like that the 200's are less game improvement-esque

I had hoped to hit some taylormades but he didn't have any. Should I go somewhere and try comparing the 790's to the t200?

From my understanding the Takoma 101 is also very similar and I really like the idea of getting a brand new club fit to the specs we found for less than I could get used t200/790's. Thoughts?

Lastly it appeared a lie adjustment of +2 was the figment which would make the used market a bit more challenging as well

On the Takoma website I see I can get 101, with a kbs tour stiff +2 lie for about $499

Buy something like these, take them to a shop and tell them you want +2… call it a day

714 AP2's are an amazing iron. Highly doubt anyone here has Takoma irons and can honestly say they are as good as Titleist. There's a reason they are $500 for brand new.

The Takoma 301 actually did well in the recent My Golf Spy testing. New Level is another direct to customer brand that has performed well in their testing and is played by a few guys on the PGAT and Champions Tour. If you're looking to save on some new clubs give them a try. The DTC market for clubs is on the rise. Sub 70 is another one out there.

Riding to what I've read/seen the 301 are a much or advance level club. I'm still a high handicapper because through my late 20's and early 30's I made absolutely no attempt to play. I actually went probably 6-7yrs without playing 18.

I'm looking to rectify that problem now lol

Yeah I'm just saying don't let the low price scare you. They seem to be a reputable brand.

I second the opinion on the 714s. Have them in my bag and don't plan to change anytime soon.

I assume this is the predecessor to the t200's?

I believe there was either one or two more models of the AP2s before the T series came out.

I'm a Mizuno fan myself. I suggest giving their irons a try too.
