It appears they large tine aerated and sanded the greens early this week. I'm playing this weekend and will report back with current conditions.

As of two weeks ago, the plugs and sod work they have done really improved those greens and much more quickly than I anticipated it would take. I've been pleasantly surprised. Holes 1,5,9,18 were still very rough.

A few are still in bad shape. I was told last Friday that They will be shutting the corse down in July to repair the ones such as 1 & 18

They did pull large-tine plugs and heavily sand the greens last week sometime. So, they're still recovering from that for sure. They were very shaggy this weekend.

After they heal from punching, there's probably 8-10 that will be pretty good, 4-6 that will be just ok, and still filling in, and 4 (holes #1,5,9,18) still very rough.

The course is otherwise in very good shape.

Such a shame. Played it in late September 2021 after it had been open about a month after the summer 2021 shutdown, and I honestly had not played better greens anywhere.

Unsure what the rates are supposed to be.

Still $50 twilight friday.

No worries - i chipped it from here since it wasn't on a "green"

For a course connected to an Ag college those greens are a complete embarrassment. I dont give a **** about prior weather, or excuses. I can point to hundreds of low end courses in TX whose greens look like Augusta compared to that.

Completely agree - unsure what happened but it's brutal.

Fwiw they don't warn you before either.

It's connected only in that it happens to be on a campus right? Managed by the same group that owns sterling in Houston?

Don't know and don't care. It's embarrassing and pathetic

Man, it's such a promising course and it's been in good or great shape when I've played it (probably 5-10 times since it was redone), but they sure seem to have problems maintaining it. Between losing the greens multiple times, the driving range being shut down, etc, that's not how you want to run a couse.

I play the campus course routinely and have been as critical and skeptical as anyone regarding the greens this year. In fairness though, #18 (pictured) is the only green they have yet to begin any major remediation work.

As I understand, the course will close Monday, July 10th and remain closed through at least Thursday, July 20th. During this time they'll complete a full course aeration plus continue work on the greens. They're in desperate need of further sanding, rolling, and mowing.

After that #1,5,9,18 are likely still 30-60 days away from being good again. But of the other 14, about 10 are good now with the remaining 4 only having relatively minor issues in a few spots that can be avoided by moving your ball a few feet sideways. Even those 4 should be fully repaired by late July.

I expect all the greens will be good again by mid-late September, which is sooner than I originally thought since they weren't more aggressive with the repair or replace work earlier.

Speaking of this, what are memberships going for at Pebble Creek these days?

I wouldn't say the course has promise. The only holes that are memorable are for us who played the course before renovation. Hole 1 and 8 are different with having 2-3 options off the tee.

It could be a decent city course like Sherrill Park in Dallas. As in upkeep, not character.

Guessing, 5k-10k initiation? Monthly dues for someone below 45 it's probably 350$ month without a cart fee?

I'm a member but I joined 6 years ago and under a different plan.

It's an okay layout. TBH, I preferred the previous layout although this one is fine. I think my main knock on it is the par 3s. They are all essentially the same distance and not exactly a fun distance either. I like when a course's par 3s put at least 3 if not 4 different clubs in your hand. There's a chance you'll hit the same club 4x on this one.

What tees do you usually play out there? The front two are very similar distances and faced the same direction so they play can play pretty similarly, although one is slightly uphill and the other down. The back two are probably 20 yards different and the shorter one is downhill. I'm anywhere from a 4-6 iron on the front two and 7-9 on the back. I do agree they aren't different enough to give them much variety.

The layout has been one of the main gripes from people, and i understand it. In my opinion, it's just still very new. Just comparing the two local courses, it's rated harder than Briarcrest, but most will agree which one is tougher to score on. A&M, anyone can stand on the tee and not have much of an issue finding their ball after they hit it and it being in play. Very different story than Briarcrest. If A&M wanted to grow that rough out it changes things drastically, but you'd have even longer rounds on the weekend if you did that. The courses main defense is the bunkers but they struggle to maintain them. The course will look and play a lot different once all of those young, newly planted trees are full grown.

One-ups. When I've played it which is 1-2x per year since I'm out of town, seems like it's been pretty consistently 180s on the first 3. A little shorter on the 4th. Last time I played, I know I hit the same club 3X. And the 4th was maybe 2 clubs different.

Gotcha. All of those greens are pretty big. They could do a better job with the pins have some fun with yardages, but idk what that would do to the pin placement sheets.

Granted, some of it may be just how I timed when I played it. I like the last par 3 which I believe is mostly unchanged. I miss the old #11 which basically got converted to a par 4.
Thisguy1
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It really depends on the wind too as open as that course is. Generally, the first par 3 is dead into you most of the year. Second one is into you and maybe slightly off the right. 3rd is off the right. 4th is into you. So really only one hole is going to play differently as far as wind goes. That's what makes it seem so similar to me. If they had just one set up facing north it would change the way you look at it quite a bit.

Here's a picture from a similar spot on #18 green yesterday. You can see they laid sod at the front, sides, and a portion of the back on Monday.

I played about a month ago. I was excited to get back to College Station and I hadn't played our course in years. I knew something was up the moment that I rolled out to the driving range (which looks like the Serengeti). It literally looked like they give zero fuggs to first impressions. We teed off and upon approaching the 1st green, we had our next disappointment. This repeated itself many times thruout the round. We're an agriculture school. We are fortunate to have a large tract of land where we can have an on campus golf course. But, you're right - it's embarrassing and pathetic that basic care to this asset is ignored.

dang that sucks. I was going to be down there later this week and hang out while my son was at soccer camp. I hadn't seen/played the course since they renovated it. Any other options for public golf there other than the one in Navasota?

aggolfer I can probably host you at pebble creek. Pending the day and time match up.

The one in Navasota (Pecan Lakes) isn't a good option either... from what I've heard it's in worse condition than the Campus course is.
