There is a member's range (wont be in use for the tourney) to the right and that par 5 is a hard dogleg right. Without it being OB, players would just bomb one on the direct route and play from there. There will also be grandstands there, so without OB, they could just bomb a drive into the corner behind them and take a free manmade immovable obstruction drop back closer to the fairway. So big picture, it basically just forces them to play the hole as designed, but unlikely to really come into play as long as they do that.
