Doc says I have a grade 4 labrum tear and wants to schedule surgery. What's the "return to play" time from those of y'all that have had the same surgery. TIA

I had labrum surgery. Also had detached biceps muscle and tendons.

Surgery
Three months of rest
Three months of stretching
Three months of strength

You'll be able to 'play' at about 3 months. To get your range of motion back (full swing) will be 6-9 months most likely. Everybody heals a little differently.
Also depends on if it's your front shoulder or back shoulder regarding range of motion affecting your swing

I had a class 6 with setback in therapy and was playing a year post. 20+ years ago though. At my current age and stature I'd be down significantly longer.

I wasnt playing alot of golf then. I stopped completely for 10+ years during that time. Picked it back up about 3 years ago and now have to really work to keep range of motion and stay pain free. The MISIG has helped with the range of motion and stretching. The massage gun keeps me off opoids.

At 10 weeks I was chipping and putting for ~30 min without pain. Started hitting short pitches around 13 weeks and got back to full swing practice around 18 weeks post surgery. Played 9 a few times and practiced but didn't play the first full round pain free at 6 months post op.

Did the surgery in late October and felt pretty good by the middle of the following summer.

That said, I still have soreness if I don't stretch / warm up right (I'll blame navy medicine and not my age).

I echo around the 6 month mark for a pain free round. I tried playing after 4 months and my body was "scared" of getting more vertical in my backswing so I got really shallow with my swing. I was still in college when I had surgery though

Everybody is different, and every tear is different. Mine was torn and retracted, along with a major tear in a second, and a minor in a third. My bicep was "out of channel" and frayed, so they cut it and re-attached. Surgery 4/1, one month of "dangle", and 6 months of rehab. I can swing a club about 11/1. He did release me to putt just the other day.

Just listen to the doc, and don't push it.

Although not the OP, I appreciate all of the feedback. I've been scheduled to have an MRI on my shoulder for what my doctor told me is a surefire labrum tear. I've blown it off 3x now because I don't want to have surgery. I can pinpoint exactly when it originally happened...in 1998. It's obviously withering so I'm about to cave. This topic is the reason I'm putting it off. I'm not a good golfer, but I thoroughly enjoy it. I've needed to hear how long this is going to set me back.
