Statistics - what are you using?

For the last 3 years I have been subscribing to Golfmetrics and keeping all of my shots and scores via that app. It was designed by Mark Brodie, the guy who invented Strokes Gained.

It is cruel in that it won't let me escape acknowledging your weak spots...but thanks to rigorous statistical analysis I have a pretty damn good idea of what need to work on (approaches from 200-250 yards and putts of over 21').

I have dropped 4-5 strokes from my handicap this summer to 8.8, and the app tells me that over my last 6 rounds I am about scratch-level with my driver, but get steadily worse the closer I get to the hole, until I'm about a 12 putting (which is still a lot better than I was this time last year). See the screen prints below.

TaylorMade has a free version of something similar, but it doesn't present its data in as useable a form.

Anyone use Arccos or the other alternative stats machines?

Spider Golf

It tracks ur variance from target line, How far u hit every club and all strokes gained stats

Not GPS or anything so u have to enter in all data

I stopped using it a bit ago after I had my weak spots

Once I found out that when I missed a green I was missing it short and left like 67% of the time I stopped tracking rounds as much

Need to start back up

Also once u know ur variance on ur short clubs u can start taking better lines into greens and when u miss ur target line u will hopefully be on the green still

Sounds useful. Golfmetrics doesn't care in what direction you miss it, only how far away from the pin the ball is after the shot and if it's fairway, green, sand, rough, etc.

Spider golf asks how long hole is, what club u hit, if your shot was played from fairway/rough/bunker, how far long/short and left/right you are from target line...it does this with putting as well bit asks if u hit a good or if line was bad.
It also has profiles so ur golf coach can follow your progress and have input on what to work on

Here's a video

I'm interested to know if anyone has used the arccos sensors and app. I've been thinking about going that route.

I'd love to do something like this, but it feels like having to put all that information into the app would take too much time/effort and distract me from (a) focusing on my round and (b) enjoying the round with friends.

I don't keep a scorecard, but enter the data directly into the app as I go. However, I used to just jot down the distance to the flag for each shot along with other stats on the scorecard, then entered it into the app when I got home.

It actually helped me focus just on the shots and not about my score

I use Arccos and love it. It gives you a lot of info and the similar breakdown in the OP. It's part of the reason I have a putting green now.

I used arccos for a while. I liked that it gives you adjusted "smart" yardage, which is awesome as it takes altitude, elevation, wind, etc into account and gives you club recommendations.

I did not find it very helpful for putting, but I only used my phone, not the link device so maybe it's better with that.

I looked in the Everest app, but the app itself is kinda klunky. I started to enter some data, then for whatever reasons flipped over to another app on my phone, came back and all the data was gone. doesn't seem to be a way to save your round or anything. I hated it - BUT I do like what data it captures to start putting a strokes gained aspect onto your game

I'm currently using "Circles" for my son's journey to college golf. Compares his stats to Pro, DI, DII, DIII. Great tool. drawmorecircles.com

That's cool

Spider golf did an update that allows you to compare strokes gained vs PGA, Mini tour, +3 to +6, 0 to +3, etc...

I started using Shot Scope earlier this year and love it. Once you buy a tracker and tags (I bought the H4 for $150), there is no subscription or membership fee ever. I track every shot and putt manually with the H4. It's fast and doesn't slow down the rest of the group one bit. It will do strokes gained and other stats, as well as comparisons with different handicap levels.

Sample screens from my stats below (compared to 15 handicap over last 30 rounds)

Those stats tell me you need a 5 iron and to throw that 9W in the lake

LOL. Yeah, That's the hole in my bag. I have a 5i, but I don't hit it any further than my 6i. I have a 5h, but it hooks like crazy. The 9w is short, but at least it's straight. Love my 5w, 7w, and 6i. But that gap is a nuisance. Can't find something reliable to put there.
