Well, during the labor day weekend, I visited my old stomping grounds Hot Springs Village, AR where one of my best buddies retired. He was a plant engineer in logging industry for almost 4 decades, so pretty handy guy.

His Yamaha gas cart does 45 mph. And his playing buddies on his street all have these high performance carts.

Well mofo... they pride themselves in playing 18 in 2.5 hours.. or even less.

It's a ****ing nascar on the golf course. ****ing balls flying everywhere and another mofo already putting out when others are hitting approaches from 100 yards. Ok, it's ready golf, I get it.

But *****. let me at least go through my preshot routine or attempt to read the breaks on the green!

So how do you answer "how did you play today?"

2 hours and 27 minutes.. shoud've been 2:15. But had to look for Randy's ball.

curious how the village would be for a golf getaway in terms of course conditions, lodging, quality of courses, etc?

I've heard good things about the golf village there, but info online is hard to find.

Wasn't even going to play yesterday, but went to sneak in 9 at 2:00. The only open time was for 18 with the skins group, so I said "Eff it" and paid in. Sundays is from the tips, so I was happy with 3 birdies, 1 KTP, and 1 skin.

I can tell you these retirees were pissed that the Village now allows outsiders (a bunch of drunks from Texas) to come play and slow down the pace of play, litter, and don't fix divots and ball marks.

Not sure what company does the online golf package but you can work directly with the Village to set up golf, I'm sure.

Housing will be plenty and excellent as there are many vacancies but try to stay near the east gate as west gate housing and courses are older, ie. DeSoto and Cortez.

Here are the courses and per my ranking:

Diamante: Private and the best course. All zoysia fairways.
Granada:
Isabella: 27 holes
Ponce DeLeon: 2nd toughest course
Magellan: A bit quirky
Balboa: Near lake balboa
Cortez: I actually love this course
DeSoto: oldest course
Coronado: Executive course.

Isabella greens have struggled but Granada was fine. It's beautiful up there and the cost should be fairly reasonable for the courses you get. They're not "not a blade out of place" type of resort courses (except Diamante) but I'd give it 8 to 9 ratings.

I'd play Granada, Isabella, Ponce, Balboa and Magellan.

By myself I was 1:35 for a round. Would have broken 1:30 but I had to wait on maintenance staff. My foursome the next day was 3:10

2 loops at the 9 hole muni in Greenville. Course was in fantastic shape just temporary greens until next week but they were still nice. I recommend the hour trip out there from Dallas. 12 bucks.

Looking for a golf ball for 12 minutes? Sounds like we've got a violation. I'm surprised they would even look for 2 minutes.

My home course as a kid was San Saba Muni. Middle of nowhere, or pretty close to it. Cowboys and farmers playing in jeans mixed in with the local pecan oligarchs (if you live in that county, you know what I mean). It's actually a surprisingly solid little course, especially the old 9, which runs through hundreds of very old, huge, and ball-hungry pecan trees in a bend of the San Saba river.

All that is to set up a story of the local covey of lady golfers. This was in the mid-late 1980s, and they were all well over 60, so I'm sure few of them are still around. They would play in anything from a 6-some to an 8-some. For them, a 100-yard drive was a booming shot, but each had her own cart, and 'ready golf' doesn't begin to describe their approach to the game. Closer to polo than to golf. I don't think those carts would stop for more than 15 seconds at a time. They'd pull up to the ball, grab a club, get over the ball and hit it about 50-70 yards, then race forward to do it again.

Once, on a Sunday, play was unusually slow. We were waiting on a group ahead of us on the old #5, and they were waiting on a group in front of them, etc., etc. The ladies roll up to us after finishing #4, one of them announces "we're playing through ya'll" and proceeded to hit without waiting for so much as nod of acknowledgment on our part. All 8 of them teed off, then played through the group in front of us, and then through the group in front of them, etc. I don't think it ever took them as long 2 hours to play a round.

I played 90 from Wednesday to Tuesday and my body is about to give up on me. And the last 18 was just a scramble at a par 3 course...

Went to Scottsdale, some buddies wanted to take their dad for his 60th and me and another friend tagged along. Trip was awesome, i'll probably make a separate trip recap thread later when i have some time.

Wednesday - Grayhawk Raptor Course (87)
Thursday - TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course (88)
Friday - Troon North Pinnacle Course (82)
Saturday - Gold Canyon Dinosaur Mountain (89)

Then played a benefit scramble at the Big Easy Ranch par 3 course on Tuesday. The par 3 course was pretty cool, but the full 18 hole course looks awesome from a distance.

I've been trying to come up with a better metaphor to describe what that gaggle of retired ladies looked like going across the course in their carts. A 'swarm of locusts' almost applies, but they did no damage and moved a lot faster. A 'pack of lionesses chasing a wildebeest', maybe?

What you described about their game is what I would call "Elmer Fudd" golf. Hit the ball, goes 10 yards...hit again..hit again..

Sounds like they're a Pack of Speeding Elmer Fudds.
