With the win this morning they are both let out of their obligation of military service. Pretty cool for them. Also I think they don't have to pay taxes anymore....so that's nice

What is the overall rules about military service there and how did they get out of it (other than just winning)?

I was under the impression they had to win an Olympic Gold or Major for military exemption. I was wrong.

All Males must serve before 35. They do their years/age different than in US. I might get this wrong but I think everyone's birthday is Jan 1 of the year you were born.

Golfers can win a gold medal or win a major to be exempt from military duty I think

Asian game gold also exempts them.
